He's using it in a context where nig is a tag for friend or confidant, so no it's not offensive. If he had said "Proof, go and pick cotton, you nig" - that would be a racial slur.

But just saying the word, isn't racist. If you're making a reference or using it in an appropriate context, it's just as arbitrary as any other word.
