He has matured, we'll never see/hear the SSLP/MMLP Eminem ever again.

I get your point but everyone has to move on.

This again don't people ever stop crying about this. Of course recoverys different his style wasn't going to be the same for 10 years he changes it on every album. Did you think he was gonna be the same and be in his prime forever? Move on already geez.

I disagree with the Matured thing aswell. It is a typical Eminem fan cop-out excuse, The dude still raps about some childish shit (even more childish than before) My beef isn't even with the content. It is the way his whole....hmm how to word it so i won't be misunderstood.

Em used to strive on perfection in every aspect, but a lot of things he does now seem forced or half assed. Some even done to please the dictators at Interscope. He used to have 1 Single made to please them the rest of the album was flawless. Hell even the singles where not too bad. But now you can go through his recent albums and not get that sense that he really spent hours upon hours crafting "The next big project" Which is what ALL true Hip Hop legends should be striving to do...

Edit: Beaten by posters who obviously misinterpreted my op. Which tbh was vague and my own fault :P

You're right about the perfectionist thing, but that was mostly because it was either him or someone close to him producing the songs (Dre, Bass bros), and he was comfortable. Now he's trying to get out of that comfort zone with other producers that have completely different styles. That's why his songs from the Recovery era don't sound "perfected".

His recent collabs were pretty bad tho, but I wouldn't judge him from that.

Killa wrote:Fair point, though i don't think it really should stop him perfecting it all. Would be nice to hear another Dre or Em produced album to see if that theory pans out. :b:

Yeah, we can say that Em "fell off" or "still has it" after we get to hear an Em/Dre produced album.

I still don't get why people say he fell off on Relapse. The rhyming is absolutely insane on it and it's a great concept album.

I agree with the OP and I'm sure a lot of people on here feel the same too.

Whenever I listen to a lot of his old stuff it never fails to impress me and I realize "Wow. He was untouchable back then. It's just not the same anymore."

And this is not in any way hating on the new Eminem.

You remind me of MJ fans. He received exactly the same critics and then he died... :coffee:

I knew i should of included (but that's a different debate) in that post :laughing:

It's because rhyming isn't the only thing that makes a Hip Hop album.

Rhyming = insane
Production = more than good
Subject matter = good, but "ran into the ground"
Concept = amazing

What else does an album need?

Just two or three tracks like Old Time's Sake that ruin it.
And don't forget the accents. They work on some songs, but they really sound ridiculuously stupid and annoying on a lot of songs.
And the subject matter being "ran into the ground" is more than sugarcoating it.
Don't get me wrong, I love Relapse just as much as I do Recovery (if not more), but quality wise it just doesn't compare to any of his older stuff. Except perhaps for Deja Vu.

Lello wrote:yeah I agree 100% with you Killa, I have been saying for the past 3 months, that this is not the same man we knew, IMO he didn't mature, he fell off completley

I think he forgot how to write after Rehab, but Relapse was a masterpiece IMO, recovery is just not Em

Maybe em was butthurt that Relapse didn't sell THAT much, and thought what the heck, i start givin a fuck now what mainstream fans think and do an album to please teenage girls...

I just hope he chose this style and not fallen off, so that we can actually get some good stuff later when he realises this style doesn't fit him at all

My post from another thread...

One Mic wrote:I've never understood all this "sell-out" bullshit.

How can the world's highest selling artist of the decade all of a sudden be a sell-out NOW? smh

You guys act like he was an underground mc, who no one had ever heard of until 2010

MMLP sold 1.77 million copies first week in USA alone you dumb cunts

smh

Lello you seem to think that Eminem was a badman/gangster ("bad ass") up until 2010..

This is the same guy that released corny singles (My Name Is, Just Lose It, Ass Like That, We Made You etc), frequently dressed up as a woman in videos and shit, dissed popstars for no reason, his major "beef" was with a part-time rapper, and magazine editor "Benzino", was a regular guest on TRL and immensely popular with their 13 year old viewers, and often dissed his own Mother on record. (another female)

And in 2010 he drops an amazing album Recovery, and you think he got soft ??

Relapse was NOT an underground album lmao. - it was one of the most commercially successful albums of 2009, had a #1 single, and a further two top 20 singles, won Grammy Awards etcc

Behave yourself son

Em has always said he doesnt care about reviews or sales as long as his fans like it. Most fans HATED relapse.
