I think he did. As Geno said, Em's a lyricist. He can be very poetic at times so it wouldn't surprise me if he did write that.

True, and he has been pretty poetic in quite a few songs, but that just didn't strike me as Em's style, so I figured I'd see if anyone knew for sure.

Is should be obvious to you. He is saying something about the place that he loves; why would he take some else's words to express what he feels about Detroit? Think about it.
