Was "Lose Yourself" a sober piece?

Postby Blu » Jan 6th, '12, 15:54

It would be highly impressive if it was. I've read on this forums that Eminem was mostly sober during the shooting of the film, so I figured he would be sober during the writing process as well. Anyone have any clues on this'?

He actually said he was taking certain pills at the time to get him to sleep and up early. I think it was the VIBE interview he did after his comeback, he said he was taking something in the mornings so he could run like a maniac on the treadmill.

"It probably started to become a problem around the 8 Mile movie. We were doing 16 hours on the set of 8 Mile, and you had a certain window where you had to sleep. One day somebody gave me an Ambien, and it knocked me the f**k out. I was like, 'I need this all the time." - Eminem

He said this in Rolling Stone in 2010. So him being sober while writing Lose Yourself is rather improbable, but not impossible, idk.

I don't think I would consider his early use of Ambien a mind altering experience. He seemed to have been using it as it was meant to be used. I think the other pills were changing him the most, and that seems to have been later on.
