The funniest album ever? I say yes. And it's not just the (certain) lines themselves, but the way he said them as well.

The Slim Shady LP and that whole era (97-99)... was just overwhelming comedic genius.

I didn't / don't sit there laughing out loud, but some of those lines / ideas / thoughts... are SO brilliant on a comedic level. The kind of, backwards, left-field, bizarro-world irony, and spite.

I don't literally laugh out loud but I go "oooh, that's fucking good", it's comedically brilliant.

Yeah, I think so. Even when I was younger I could get a kick out of the whacky situations and obviously funny lines "stuck that shit in crooked and fucked that fat slut to death!" and now that I'm older I can appreciate the much more subtle comedy. The irony. The commentary on society. Lines like "Extortin', snortin', supportin' abortion... Pathological liar, blowin' shit out of proportion" are so perfect, the way he says these wild outlandish things then follows it up with the fact he's a pathological liar who blows shit out of proportion. The best thing about a lot of the content is that if you don't see the humor in it, they are designed to inflame or outrage.

MMLP certainly isn't as funny, the entire album is crafted aroud this idea, so instead of individual instances of this occurring throughout songs you have entire songs that almost every line is like this (Kill You, Criminal, etc). He really took it to the next level on that album.

But as far as laugh out loud moments, or "Damn, that's funny" moments, SSLP wins hands down.

I would say it't the funniest "serious" album. And by "serious," I just mean that it wasn't released as a comedy album per se. The hardest I've ever actually laughed listening to an album would be The Lonely Island Incredibad

It's a very dry humour, fuckin hilarious.

Yeah I love how he sounds dead serious about all of it.

Hahah, yeah, that's what I love about it as well. And I've definitely had plenty of "lol" moments, specially the first time I listened to it (the first time when I knew English good enough). And I have to agree with EminemBase, that it's not just this album but that whole era as well. The freestyles he did during the time were incredible - "Stole your momma’s Acura, wrecked it, and sold it back to her"

There's definitely so much in the album to go back and listen to. Even today I am still realising the level of though that goes into some of the lines: the pairing of the Norman Bates line and hitting his mum over the head with a shovel in Role Model is a clear example of this (and it transcends into his other albums: "a blood stain is orange after you wash it three or four times in a tub, but that's normal ain't it Norman?"). People can relate to the examples, not necessarily because they're on the same wavelength, but because they've seen the film he's referencing, or are aware of the character he is describing/abusing.

The abortion line in JDGAF is easy to take for granted, but given the context of the time: just before Bush came to power (who has followed a Republican line against abortion) it's definitely provocative.

Underlying the album though is the ease with which it was written: long hours haven't been spent ensuring every rhyme pattern is dense and rhythmic (ahem Infinite); it flows so well because it is so organic.

Honestly it can be, but when it's being compared to albums by comedic rappers like Afroman it doesn't stand a chance. It's definitely the funniest album not coming from a comedy-focused artist though.

I haven't listened to an Afroman album in its entirety tbh, so I can't speak on this. But judging from some of his songs, I definitely prefer Em's "pissed off" delivery so I probably won't put any of his LPs over SSLP.

See, Lonely Island are going for the obvious funny. Jizz In My Pants and I´m On A Boat are funny, but they just make fun of the stuff we see every day.
Eminem gets it done far more subtle, and if you ask me, with much more humor. You listen to Eminem and BANG-he spits line like "My rap style's warped, I'm runnin out the morgue witcha dead grandmother's corpse to throw it on your porch..." or "bitch, I got a dick, wanna fuck" or "roll up on you like Christopher Reeve".

Just as same as his disses. He goes inside the head of his target, it`s not just name calling and threats.

Didn't particularly make me laugh out loud, but there's a bunch of dark humor that I like. He was so tongue-in-cheek about it that it made it "seriously funny" is a way I would put it. The album itself was serious, it just contained funny moments and scenarios.

Exactly. Out of any Em track I've played to people (girls included) Wee Wee is one of the only ones (along with Fack) that have made them laugh out loud.

As a friend once acknowledged, and I agree: music isn't there to make you laugh. I'd watch a comedy for that. When it does, and it works, it's just an added bonus.
