Has Em taught you any new words?

Postby Amaranthine » May 29th, '12, 00:05

Em has a pretty big vocabulary for someone who never made it past the ninth grade. Were there any words that you had to go look up when you heard them?

For me: succubus and truculent.

Part of the credit for my knowledge of English goes to the man himself, helped me out a lot.

So, to answer your question - yes, a ton of words. :p

Antidisestablishmentarianism.
Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

Exactly this.

And I'll add this: I wanted to learn English BECAUSE of Eminem.

Looks like he taught a couple of us (And Royce, at least that's what I think was said in the Complex interview) truculent.

Percolator, and a bunch of words from his Infinite album when I first heard it.

Since English isn't my first language he pretty much taught me a huge part of my vocabulary. Not just single words but how to use them in context, like "to be discriminated against". Actually a word just popped into my mind: metamorphosis (from SFTM). In my country this is strictly a biological term and we have a different word to describe metamorphosis. This made me aware of how many technical terms in my language are pretty normal in English. It also made me think that native English speakers must be super intelligent, because they know those difficult terms naturally. :D

In school (I teach) I kind of made it my inside joke (since kids aren't Eminem stans anymore or just LTWYL kind of fans") to ask what rhymes with "orange" hehe. I only do that with older students but their vocabulary is so small they sometimes just don't get that you could rhyme it with door hinge, storage etc. No one has ever figured out the origin of my question though. That's when I become pissed off (not really but it annoys me) - if you wanna know about the English language THEN LISTEN TO EMINEM!
August 22 2013 - from Berlin to Paris, 400€ spent just for Eminem. IT WAS WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT!

Everybody who speak English can teach me new words. Even most of you do.

Yeah, for us non-native speakers, he's had a big role in the improvement of our English. And Hip-Hop in general as well.
