MMLP

Just listening to it... for the first time in probably about 5 months...

I overplayed this shit so much from the age of 10 I thought his first 3 had kinda lost their sting to me, since I just know the shit soooooooooo INSIDE-OUT and played so many times...

But WOW. This is just SO fucking good. And the contrast is especially highlighted after listening to his recent shit so much lately, it's so clear and definitive... there's such a coherent style that feels cemented in the music and his raps, top-to-fucking-bottom.

This shit is classic as fuck. And, 13 years on... his lyrics and flows here still sound better than anything I've heard since. His humour is complex, biting, socio-political... all of his first three are a holy trinity of hip-hop, but man, this is his masterpiece.

The fucking balance of rhyme schemes, concepts, humour, the ideas themselves, messages, atmosphere, production, melody, the hooks... it's near-pitch-perfect.

I hear you man, I'm in the exact same boat.

I overplayed those albums so much when I was a kid that it's hard to really appreciate them fully...but sometimes I get a glimpse of the magic when I throw it on still.

^ Yup. :b:

And to all those who have said Em was never a good political rapper or he ain't good at it...

I'm sorry, there must be a mix-up
You want me to fix up lyrics while the President gets his dick sucked?
[*ewwww*] Fuck that, take drugs, rape sluts
Make fun of gay clubs, men who wear make-up
Get aware, wake up, get a sense of humor
Quit tryin to censor music, this is for your kid's amusement
(The kids!) But don't blame me when lil' Eric jumps off of the terrace
You shoulda been watchin him - apparently you ain't parents

They obviously never understood him to begin with. That's fucking brilliant, comical, socio-political, aware commentary without sacrificying a single element. Never heard anything that biting, observational or sharp come out of Nas' mouth.

Em used to be a master of mixing social commentary with personal outlook... I hope to fuck he goes back to it (if he can still do it), it's so much more compelling than his life.

In hindsight, it really is impressive to see how that biting wit and insight came from an undereducated kid from shitty neighborhoods that pretty much only worked food service his whole life.

The transition from the 1st Album to this is worth noting. An average fan after listening to SSLP would expect a more similar tone on the next. Given Eminem's want to make every Album different is what made this Album so impacting in the 1st place. He sounded so matured on songs like "Stan", "Marshall Mathers" and " The Way I Am". He was like so ahead of what other Rappers where saying at that time.

Who Knew tends to hit me the hardest when I listen to the album these days.

Who Knew is brilliant, it's funny to hear Em talk about it in his book. Almost like its a throw away track n

He thought it would be the lead single until Jimmy made him make TRSS.

When I go out, I'ma go out shootin
I don't mean when I die, I mean when I go out to the club, stupid
I'm tryin to clear up my fuckin' image,
so I promised the fuckin critics
I wouldn't say "fuckin" for six minutes
(*click* Six minutes, Slim Shady, you're on)
My baby's mom, bitch made me an angry blonde
So I made me a song, killed her and put Hailie on
I may be wrong, I keep thinkin these crazy thoughts
in my cranium, but I'm stuck with a crazy mom
("Is she really on as much dope as you say she's on?")
Came home, and somebody musta broke in the back window
and stole two loaded machine guns and both of my trenchcoats
Sick sick dreams of picnic scenes, two kids, sixteen
with M-16's and ten clips each
And them shits reach through six kids each
And Slim gets blamed in Bill Clint's speech to fix these streets?
FUCK THAT! PBBT! Tou faggots can vanish to volcanic ash
and re-appear in hell with a can of gas, AND a match
Aftermath, Dre, grab the gat, show 'em where it's at
(What the fuck you starin at, nigga?)

Hahaha! Gimme the mic, let me recite, 'til Timothy White
pickets outside the Interscope offices every night
What if he's right? I'm just a criminal, makin a living
off of the world's misery - what in the world gives me the right
to say what I like, and walk around flippin the bird
Livin the urban life, like a white kid from the 'burbs
Dreamin at night of screamin at mom, schemin to leave
Run away from home and grow to be as evil as me
I just want you all to notice me and people to see
that somewhere deep down, there's a decent human being in me
It just can't be found, so the reason you've been seeing this me
is cause this is me now, the recent dude who's being this mean
So when you see me, dressin up like a nerd on TV
or heard the CD usin the fag word so freely
it's just me being me, here want me to tone it down?
[LOWER pitch] Suck my fuckin dick, you faggot
You happy now? Look here

:y: :y: Just two examples of what makes MMLP the way it is.

Best album. I don't think any artist can ever beat it. I'd love to see him try and match it tho. I want another album like this so fucking bad. I killed this album when it came out. I was going on 12. 12!

Yeah, I think I was 11 when I got this album. It probably fucked up my head, because I know I became almost obsessed with it. I was on some "Stan" shit for real.

I was 11 too when I got this album. I barely understand a word in every song, cause i didnt know English too good to understand fast speech, especially in rap music back in the time. Bot somehow, on the mental level, i dont know, i felt in love with it.

I must have brought MMLP 3 times cause it get scratch up or my bro would take it and lose it... I got pissed. If I remember I was around that age when I got it and it was the first eminem album I believe.

I remember putting it on my stereo with the volume up having mom yelling at me "What is this shit?! Turn that shit off now!!" Even at Private school, Staff had to turn it off or tell me to stop playing it.

Man, Those days Em had a TRL day or EMtv... I was hooked on that, music video all day and talking about his life and shit.

I've become a fan of A LOT of different music since then (Jonas Brothers, anyone) but nothing has ever amounted to this album. I also think that's what got me and my friends into our drinking and drugs stage that same year lol. I was so done with drugs and alcohol by the time everyone else was starting it. I was years in by that point.
