Generally speaking, this does seem to be the case.

This goes all the way back to The Eminem Show, from what I can tell. I'm sure there are people out there that felt like "Stan" was a sell-out move too though, or that The Marshall Mathers LP overall just didn't stand up to the crazy self-parody of The Slim Shady LP. There were definitely people that felt like The Slim Shady EP was full of too many drug references, in comparison to Infinite.
