Is Recovery good?

Postby Jimmy Conway » Jul 24th, '13, 17:00

When Recovery first came out everyone seemed to love it. Relieved the accent was gone, happy to hear more personal songs.

As time has went on, people seem to now like Relapse more than Recovery.

I thought I liked Recovery first play through. As I drove down the street listening to it, I was excited. But each time I listened, the less I liked it. The poor production jumped out at me, then the bad features, then the forced punchlines.

I haven't listened to the cd in months. If a song I like, like Almost Famous or seduction comes on pandora, I'll leave it.

I listen to Relapse at some point just about every week. I think it is a classic album, which most don't seem to look at it as one. I think of Recovery as a wasted effort.

As a mainstream rap album, it's excellent. For Eminem's standard's, it's merely decent or good. Over time though, Relapse becomes more easily digestible and in the end is an overall better album.

Its a good album for EMs new fanbase, but for those of us who has been around since SSLP,its a little disappointing.Atleast for me.

The terrible production is the biggest factor,i only like a couple of beats on it,the rest are soft radio pop beats.
The other problem i have is half of the albums choruses is sampled shit and its frustrating cause EM can do so much better himself. He doesnt need sampled hooks and definitely not so many as there are on Recovery.

Relapse is amazing and Dres production on it is just :worship:

I agree. The beats are the weakest part.

No, I meant what I said. Trshady, people I personally know, twitter, youtube, the internet in general.

I don't know how many youtube comments I've seen that say something like "I miss this Em, much better than that Recovery shit" and it has like 80 thumbs up on it.

I think most people like Relapse better. Take Rhianna and Wayne off the album and I think the percentage would sway even more.

Family Sign or Recovery?

I don't think Family Sign is bad, bar She's Enough (call me a Slug stan), so I'd vote Family Sign. But it obviously isn't as good as his older stuff.

The highs on Family Sign (The Last To Say, My Notes and Your Name Here) slightly edge the highs on Recovery, but the lows aren't as bad, and at least Family Sign is a somewhat cohesive album.

I'm finding the opposite to be true. Also, taking Wayne off the album would have just made it better :coffee:

I think it's good. The production and the forced punchlines are bad aspects, but the album have very good songs (Almost Famous, On Fire, Seduction, Going Through Changes, Space Bound, So Bad, Ridaz*...)

7/10, in my opinion.
