His freestyles are always great.
Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

I can find a reasonable answer to this question. The question by itself makes me sad as fuck. Everything about Em's music in 2009 showed that he was going into a path of 'return to form'. And then... Recovery :(

Airplanes II, Drop the world and Forever verses are so overrated it's not even funny. 2009 Cypher verse was coo' doe.
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

It's funny because out of those 4, the cypher verse was the weakest one.

Won't even bother to comment because I love Recovery. 9,5/10 to me.
But his voice in there kinda gets to me. It sounds so much better in The Warning.

Drop the World was the turning point. That was the start of Chop-i-nem and corny punchlines galore. The line that marked the end of his momentum?

Came up from behind and pretty much snuck up and buttfucked this game up/Better be careful when you bring my name up, fuck this fame, that ain't what/I came to claim...

That was the moment he drifted into ReUp mode. It's been all downhill ever since. I thought he'd relapsed when I heard the snippet from Airplanes 2, only to be somewhat relieved when I heard the rest of the verse, wondering what the fuck happened where his voice suddenly changed.

But something happened that caused him to morph into the frustrating rapper we see today.

I love Relapse, but everything that came after it before Recovery was :worship:

The Warning, his verses on Airplanes II/Forever/Drop The World/BET Cipher/Tim Westwood Freestyles

What the fuck happened Marshall???

There is no excuse for the discrepancies in Recovery when he was at his absolute best since his comeback right before it dropped.

The BET Cypher as in the 09 one? or the 11 one, as the 11 one is obviously after Recovery, and I wouldn't say the 09 is close to that. The 11 one is amazing.

His "Forever" verse is Relapse-esque, the "Airplanes II" verse isn't as good as most Recovery verses, and the truly amazing 09 Westwood freestyle was clearly Relapse material also, probably R2, which shows you how amazing that probably was. That long verse he spits is totally Relapse-esque in his thinking, his writing, lyrics and flow...

Em was at his best in his Relapse mindset and style since coming back as it's something he honed properly and truly wanted to do... compared to the Recovery style being a compromise and him trying to fit in rather than stand-out. Definitely plenty of fantastic material on Recovery but... I'd say the only major discrepancies, bar a few cringe-lines, is the production.

So what did you think of his 2011 Cypher freestyle or his Art Of Rap one?

I have to agree the songs he released or featured on during this time period are actually my favorite since his comeback.
But what am I gonna do when the rage is gone and the lights go out in that trailer park?

Those all were pretty good verses. I like Recovery, but he was trying to hard to make it a comeback album and bash his accent and last 2 albums.. A lot of complaining and not enough of the Em we like to see. But I think BME was some of his best stuff and I hope that means Em will just take care of business this next album.
