Nas better than Em?

Postby Jimmy Conway » Jul 28th, '13, 16:13

I don't think it is debatable that Em had a higher talent, but over all consistency I think Nas is better.

The last few years Nas has been WAY better. Life is good crushes Recovery. And even this year Nas has been fire.

"I ain't mad at you, young king, this unsung song is haunting. "

"And who could I ask for help? Older niggas was gettin' mad
But that's the gift and the curse, that's the good and the bad
At least you got Jay, but he already one of the greats
And it's hard for the great to tell somebody how to be great
Nigga I tried and niggas threw that shit right back in my face
They took my cosign, but they ain't let me EP their tapes"

Em and Nas are my 1 and 2. I just go back and forth on what order to put them in.

Encore, Recovery, Infinite......Nas has never made albums like that. That's why it makes it hard.

At the same time Nas has never made anything as good as the Eminem Show.

Nas has more releases and more consistant. Also he didn't have Dr. Dre, one of the best producers all time holding his hand through becoming famous and producing his stuff.

You have answered your question by saying "At the same time Nas has never made anything as good as the Eminem Show." It doesnt matter how many shitty releases Eminem has as long as he already did something that Nas cant touch. If Eminem had higher highs, then who gives a fuck about lows?

An Eminem forum is sure a place to get an objective answer.

The lows make the highs seem more out of reach
Cause I can’t explain to y’all how dang exhausted my legs felt, just having to balance my dang self but on eggshells I was made to walk but thank you, ma, ‘cause that gave me the strength to cause Shady-mania

Menzo, I find Daughter more enjoyable and "emotionally triggering" than GTC.

Not that you care, just saying.

I know right, I should go to a Nas forum and ask if Em is better than Nas

I just wanted to talk about it. Even though 90% of it would be biased Em nut kissing by people who probably haven't even heard all of Nas's albums. But some people have things to say.

Most people here love Nas. Me and Menzo are like you, we have Eminem and Nas in our top 2.

I just meant in general, it wasn't a shot at anyone.

I think Em is better, but it's really close. A lot closer than most people think. People rarely even talk about Nas like he is washed up or something.

If Nas had 15 years of Dre production I wonder if the argument would be even closer.

It's like Eminem played for the Yankees and Nas played for the Pirates.

Not even close.

I don't view an artist as better or worse based on how consistent they are lmao... that makes no sense. I look at how good they are and what they do which is better or worse.

Eminem is another planet kind of talent to any of the other greats.

None of them could write and perform something like "Stan", or "Lose Yourself", or "Kim", or create an album as brilliant in so many dimensions as MMLP. And none of them have.

Not to say they should have to do what he does to be 'as good', but Nas can do so much less, so much less well, even if you JUST judge Nas by technical aspects alone, Eminem is miles more talented and inventive, then if you JUST judge their (Em/Nas)... wit, again, Em is another kind of special... then if you... JUST judge their storytelling abilities; I know Nas is praised as a storyteller, but "Stan"... are you kidding me? He's not close to as thrilling, descriptive or original in that department either. He's not as original, skilled, entertaining or... anything.

Eminem is a much more noteworthy talent in almost every way I can think of.

Foetus, One Mic, Rewind are at least as great as Stan. Not judging the songs but the storytelling.

Lol.

No. No they're not. Not even fucking close man.

For one thing Nas takes the usual, predictable and far easier route of telling these stories from an 'outside' perspective, switching between past tense and third person...

In "Stan", Em creates a lyrical narrative which moves forward - and peaks, and concludes - out of DIALOGUE; it's live action drama, you could play it 50 years from now and it's a live scene, like a movie scene; that alone takes it to another level, the voice acting; the emotion and psychopathy Em writes as Stan's mind and expresses as him... the ability to write from a fantasy perspective, not just referring to events but actually living and breathing the fiction through the lyrics.

That's another skill entirely. Nothing Nas has made is in the same galaxy as "Stan".

Obviously Distant Relatives is better than BME - which was an EP of throwaway tracks, that's not even comparable.

Like I said, as a project, LIG flows smoothly and better but the songs on Recovery, the majority, dwarf most of Nas' on LIG.

It's amazing the things you guys will say to make excuses for Em and his mediocre work. To say it was a throw away album implies they just had a bunch of songs locked away in a vault and decided to release it.

They got together, collaberated on songs and made a entire album. That was the best they could do.

Just because it was a mediocre album (OMG U MORON ROYCE AN EM FIRE U STOOPID) doesn't mean you can say it was a throw away and it isn't comparable.

It is comparable and Nas and damien did their collab better.

Nas is a legend, I'm a huge Nas fan, but Em's best is better than Nas's best.
