I remember reference in Cold Wind Blows

Postby Insidious91 » Aug 1st, '13, 10:48

This may have been posted before, but I just caught the "I Remember' reference in CWB when he says "The last thing you wanna do is have me spit a rhyme and say I was writing this and I thought of you". In I Remember, he said "everytime I write a lyric, Im'a think of you". Pretty sure theres a strong connection between those 2 lyrics lol. I just thought it was a cool reference seeing how I Remember is arguably one of his best diss tracks.

Thanks guys :8) Makes me appreciate this song a lot more actually. He's basically reminding everybody he's got it when it comes to making diss tracks, hence the warning. I think this is the best song on the whole damn album.

If it's just coincidental, we can still appreciate the daunting reality of that closing line. Awesome.

Yeah, I wonder if Everlast had flashbacks when he heard that line lmao. Maybe Em wrote it accidentally and later caught that reference and said "oh shit I said the same thing to Everlast when I destroyed his career". I'm betting anything that line was intentional though. I mean that would be such a strong random coincidence otherwise.

If only I could tweet Em about it and he would fucking respond we would all know for sure. But the fact that the song is an aggressive track to his 'haters' supports this theory even more. He was definitely aggressive and violent on I Remember lol.

I think this is his best use of being subliminal if it was indeed intentional, which I still think it is. I mean, I Remember has been heard by millions of people already so it's not like you have to reach that much to guess what he is referring to with that line. And like you said, he closed both verses with practically the same line. Cmon son.Em is fucking brilliant. :worship:

I don't think it's a ref to that yo. I think he was saying it just generally.

Idk about that yo. I doubt he said it in the general sense. I still think he said it with a purpose. He said the same thing on a diss track a decade ago, and this song is basically a warning to what will happen if you diss Eminem. That's all the evidence I need tbh. :coffee:

While that may be true in the sense that it displays some indifferent viciousness, I don't think "Cold Wind Blows" is conceptually a warning not to diss Eminem. I think it's a song that speaks to his cold nature, and as a result, mentions the Mariah Carey thing along with many other references to his general bad-assness.

Within this context, it seems like a bit of a reach to say that this line--which stands alone quite well--is a reference to a largely unheard song from a decade before. It's not impossible, of course...I just don't think there's enough to go on here to definitively say that this is the case.

"I Remember" is my favorite diss track from Eminem though.

You do have a point. I should of worded my post better. The song itself may not be a direct warning not to diss him, but the overall 'don't give a fuck' vibe of the song gives that impression that you wouldn't want to mess with him. Especially with that jab at Mariah thrown in there. You're right though this doesn't mean it's 100% the case, but without Eminem's confirmation, this is all the evidence we have to base it on lol. Out of all the subliminal messages people have found in Eminem's lyrics, I think this is the most plausible one don't you think?

And word, the way Eminem just flipped Everlast's singing style back on him and executed it a lot better is pure genius. His rap verse is was totally worth the wait after two verses of singing haha.
