Oldest good Rapper?

Postby Jimmy Conway » Aug 5th, '13, 17:22

Eminem is old. And he is getting older every second, as we all are. It got me thinking about good rappers over 40. There aren't many of them. The oldest rapper I can think of that I like is Rakim, he's 45. But I haven't heard anything from him in a few years. Snoop is in his 40's now, but he's unlistenable these days. Is DMX still good? I didn't even listen to Undisputed. It looks like he will be living in a cardboard box soon, so I guess it didn't sell well. I suspect that Em's new album will be the best rap album by a 40 year old ever, but the bar isn't set very high for that to happen.

I guess Rakim would be the correct answer. There's Jay as well but he's not better than Em or Rakim.

I hated Jay's new album. Only song I really like is Blue. But that's mainly because of the beat and the small biggie sample. I was going to say jadakiss but he's only 38. I doubt we will hear Greatest Dead or Alive before he's 40, so that one might be good, or it should be as long as he's been working on it.

And Dre's verses suck even when they're ghostwritten.

You're pretty much saying Em and Royce suck since they wrote most of 2001.

I'd probably just say Em and Jay-Z. They're pretty much the top 2 in a lot of lists (alive) and the oldest so...

But Em over Jay obv.
But what am I gonna do when the rage is gone and the lights go out in that trailer park?

Rakim or Em. Or Nas.
Slik, if Salman Rudshie and Wole Soyinka collaborated to write a Dre verse, with Jesus Christ on a retainer to provide them with inspiration, and with Mozart to oversee the entire creative process, the verse would still suck.

Ultimately the best answer. Arguably in his prime in his 40's
