Relapse to Recovery - Why the change?

Postby detox2030 » Aug 10th, '13, 15:31

This is not me bashing Recovery or anything, I'm just curious.

Why did Em change so much in one year, from 2009 to 2010. I was looking at some interviews of 2009 and it looked like Em was back in his slim shady persona. Not just interviews, just clips of him. He looked like he was happy to get back into the game, and looked like the fun shady we all knew and love but of course a bit more mature. He was joking around, smiling, all that.

Then 2010 came and Recovery came out. Ever since then he tries his best to "look hard". He hardly ever smiles anymore, he looks so serious and depressed nowadays it's just weird. Not to mention his music from Recovery took a sudden change, most of you know this.

Now if Em was this serious when he came out of hiatus I would understand, since he almost went through death and lost his friend Proof. But he was the exact opposite. The purpose of this thread is to ask the question why was 2009 Em so happy and 2010-present Em so fucking serious all the time.

People were saying the same thing in 2009 though.
Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

People change. Simple as that.

He was already off drugs during the Relapse interviews. Something happened, whether it's politics or just himself but he got a lot more serious in his interviews and shit.

I think Recovery was always in the works and Relapse was it's prequel, so we and he didnt miss anything in the timeline of things ..

Because you're clearly with him 24/7 and know what goes on away from the spotlight, right?

To prove to the world that he could still dominate the charts and rap with aggression in his normal voice.... also to show his range and show the world that he's not a demented psychopath who only raps about raping people and performing home abortions with Dexter :o

He was flushing out his drugs during the Relapse era. Difference in his music and how he acted, even without reaction to criticism and the label which probably effected it too.

I think how the public reacted to Relapse led to Eminem changing so much.

IMO it was good for Eminem to mature and become more serious. He needed his stardom back, and he didn't get a lot of it from Relapse. Recovery put the spotlight back on Em

You clearly don't know shit. Don't go around spitting this garbage out when you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

On Relapse's release Eminem was sober for more than a year. You call that flushing drugs out?

You learn all your fucking information from his lyrics?

Dr Dre is alive, if you weren't aware.

LOL OKAY. I did not once touch down on Eminem's actual sobriety as far as how long he was off drugs or try to start a album war/bash fest or comparison of ANY Eminem album, and if I did then it was unintentional. So don't go around spitting garbage when you don't know what you're spitting garbage about, kay?

Just because I'm not one of the several who praise Relapse all the time on this website doesn't mean you can take my comment out of context as if I was blowing a load on Relapse's face and get mad over it. You think I don't know Em was off drugs? You think I literally meant he was pissing vicodin out of his penis while writing Deja Vu? Apparently.

In actuality I was talking about his mind state when writing most of Relapse. He was flushing out this drug personality moving toward what would later reduce him to his actual sober self. You know, since he literally mentions drugs an average of 1341498560 times per song on Relapse?

And the same goes for his line on Recovery. Are you telling me Eminem was trying to lie to us on his album by acting like he was still flushing out drugs from his system during Relapse? Of course not. He isn't that stupid and hopefully neither are you.

Somehow, the whining on the internet got back to him. Makes you wonder if Eminem would have continued the path he was on with Relapse and that early in-between period if twitter didn't exist.
