"Berzerk" has great hook and pretty decent production... though still a bit too much loud it feels... like every Em production of the past 3 years fucking crowds his vocals.

He used to let his voice do the talking, too much going on at the moment...

If MMLP is overproduced with constant noise like that... could be in trouble.

I find the verses of "Survival" highly enjoyable though.

The rapping wasn't fantastic on Survival. It was just adequate. And like Lamar, Em did set the bar low.

At least Berzerk was really fun to listen to. Survival was just a rehash.

Just listening to "Berzerk" again... okay so, actually... as an overall this is more fun yeah but only due to the monster hook... the 2nd and 3rd verses are kinda dog shit...

I love the switch-ups and the rhythms in it...

But all of the "Survival" verses hit home for me and feel powerful.

The 3rd verse of "Berzerk" is so generic, just babbling about nothing, few celeb name drops and the usual 'girl yada yada' shit... MMLP was genuine social-commentary... even when he was rapping about psycho or seemingly nonsensical shit, it always had some meaty thoughts behind it...

But the content of the 2nd and 3rd verse... sounds like some throwaway nonsense he'd put on some side-project or a mixtape, not THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP 2... I think we're all kidding ourselves if we're saying that content is up to scratch... I think maybe Rubin advised him to stop focusing so hard on showcasing / try to take it back to just being relaxed and effortless by the sounds of that latest little snippet commentary about Rubin's involvement...

But I hope Em has put some fucking thought in to this content, if it's just "angry, drugs, sluts... a clubby kinda track... a lovey kinda track and an outro" then... there's really no reason to associate it with MMLP in any way. As it's not a duplication of the sound obviously, so if it's not inherently similar conceptually or of that same world of themes.. it's a pointless title.

Comparing the Rapping on the both the songs seems a little wrong to me. Berzerk has kinda a old-school approach to it. Survival is so 2010-ish...Listening to Berzerk reminds you of his 2001-03 style, plus the B.Boys, Snoop Dogg, Run DMC etc. More or less like the Rapping that we all fell in love with.

I usually agree with most things you say EminemBase, but I disagree hugely on this one.

Survival is already getting stale for me to listen to... Granted, that's mostly because of the god-awful hook (which you acknowledged is shit), but it's also just the general sound of the track.

His rapping is pretty good for most of it, but it's just not that 'good' when you're putting it up against the rest of Eminem's discography. I just re-listened to Recovery, and I'm not even sure Survival would be one of the better tracks on it to be honest. Eminem 'sounds' a lot better on Survival than on most of Recovery - I love his voice on it - but it's just pretty generic writing on it in my opinion.

On the other hand, Berzerk is very fresh and I'm enjoying it a hell of a lot more. Sure, it's not much of a rap song, but I LOVE the general sound of the track and what consists of the verses is pretty good and much more interesting to listen to than Survival. I actually prefer the second and third verses to the first to be honest - I realise the lyrics are better in the first verse but I just love the delivery on the second and third verses because it's so different to anything we've heard from Em in so long. That relaxed, higher pitched voice is fucking nostalgic, and we haven't heard it since Encore.

I enjoy both evenly, they're both very different songs so it's hard to say one is better than the other.
