So recently, all these talks about leaks made me think about Encore. And I just gave it a full spin for the first time in a while. And I honestly don't think it's Em's worst or even second worse album..
Is it up there with his best work? No. Does it deserve to follow up the godly Eminem Show? No.
But there's a few reasons why I think it gets a worse rep that I think it deserves.
First things first. Production. It's up there with his best. Top 3 albums production wise IMO, and I don't think many people wouldnt have it their top 4.
There are some gems on this album.
Yellow Brick Road, Never Enough, Like Toy Soldiers, Mosh, Spend Some Time, Mosh, Encore.
I personally think Puke is pretty genius too, and Rain Man is hysterical.
The main problem with this album, the duds.
Just Lose It, My 1st Single, Big Weenie, Ass Like That, One Shot Two Shot.
Where he was going with these is beyond me, some of them being added because of the leak. That was his main mistake, he should have left We As Americans and Love You More on this album. I could have tolerated Ass Like That and Just Lose It if those songs were on it.
Straight From the Lab EP had some gems on it as well, some of which could have been on the album.
But think of this track list, it's really not that bad and I could listen through this and enjoy is just as much as I do Relapse and Recovery. And Relapse gets a lot of praise and it has some serious duds on it, and theres not even an excuse for those (such as a leak).
1. Evil Deeds
2. Never Enough
3. Yellow Brick Road
4. Like Toy Soldiers
5. Mosh
6. Puke
7. Rain Man
8. Just Lose It
9. Spend Some Time
10. Mockingbird
11. Love You More
12. Crazy In Love
13. We As Americans
14. Encore
Even if you added songs like Ricky Ticky Toc or Bully, it could be better. IMO, he should have just left those tracks that leaked on. But nevertheless, I enjoy this more than most, and I feel like its just a common thing that Em fans do, write Encore off. Once again, its not his best, but its def. not his worst IMO.
