Can someone explain the second part of Bad Guy?

Postby electroencephalogram » Nov 8th, '13, 23:37

After the car goes into the water, the beat changes. "I'm also the..." then begins. Is that still Mathew? And does it switch back to Eminem towards the end?

This part just kind of confuses me in how it fits into the rest of the song.

I like to think it's Slim Shady talking to Em, hence the devil voice.

The way I took it was eminem is drowning and dying and his final thoughts are realizing what Matthew and Stan really meant to him, and how Matthew and Stan represent not only their stories but emotions and a state of mind

I've taken it as this is Eminem/Slim Shady/Marshall looking past the 'story' of Matthew and Stan and looking at the 'real' big picture of things after/while he is dying. I don't really know how to explain it but it makes sense to me.

No, the second part of the song is clearly directed towards Eminem. It isn't Slim Shady, because the bullying comments would be applicable to his alter ego most of all. It isn't until the very end that Eminem picks up the narrative with "so, one last time, I'm back".

While the perspective may not fit Matthew as a character, the idea of Matthew as a metaphor for many things and people makes the narrative a little more appropriate.

It is.

I was going to make a topic yesterday about this part because I'm convinced it's Slim talking to Em.

EDIT: Not even the devil voice, but the lyrics themselves tell me it's Slim.

The 2nd part of Bad Guy is, to me, death/karma speaking and the experience of dying and realizing what you did wrong in this life.
