Bad lines, who gives a shit about them?

Postby cheeseburger » Nov 18th, '13, 09:33

You people do. And only you.

Italian sausage.
Drop corn.
Spah-ghetteeveen.
Fuck police/cop porn.
Reach full potential/Peak.
Shit on the mic/stabbing my self.

All these lines make me chuckle, bob my head and/or think its dope.

Listen, Eminem is at a point of his career that he can drop stuff like this AS LONG as its not in the center of attention. Like, on Recovery and HTS he did the same thing, BUT he wowed the whole verse around it and made it look like he really thought it was that dope.

My problem with you guys is that there could be a super cool song with a dope beat and clever lines. But as long as there is ONE single fucking funny (you call it cringeworthy) line there you just go CORN CORN COOOOOOOOOOORN...

Its like you cant appreciate a song if it has that one line because you think people will look at you weird if you like it...

Well the only one out of those I'd say is bad is the Spah-ghetteeveen line.

The italian sausage line isn't a pun... it's just descriptive/angry sarcasm... people seem convinced it's bad because it's some kind of food lmao? Why is it bad.

None of these are really a big deal...

A much bigger deal is 'So fear not my dear' in "Asshole". Sounds like how I tried to rap at 15.

Well, my answer would be philosophical. The fact that we point out and scorn corny is because we pick out and enjoy dope. Doing one and not the other would be hypocritical

Heres one for you.

Imagine a big piece of shit with a small bit of golden cornflake in it.
Would you take out the cornflake and eat it?

He was actually trying to spell "Knock Madness" I think.

I just acknowledge shitty lines/flows/ect.. Some of the best songs on the album have the worst moments on the album. But the greater scheme of the song isn't ruined for me. The Italian sausage line is bad but Legacy is one of my favorite Em tracks.

the only thing on this album thats bad imo is the "achoo then achieve" but when i hear it now i dont get that cringe feeling like i would usually get listening to his last 2 albums, i think mmlp2 has undone the damage he made with them last 2 albus tbh. like the op said, he's not focusing the entire tracks on delivering those cheesy punches anymore

I agree with that.

The "achoo then achieve" thing doesn't bother me because I like to pretend Survival doesn't exist. Not that I hate Survival it just isnt a song for this album.

ha lol, i dont mind the track tbh, he spits with some energy on it. when he dropped it as a single, it was definitely to reminiscent of recovery and i barely listened to it, but has it comes in its rotation on the album, i dont skip it

The problem is when a line takes you completely out of the mood. The "toilet's clogged" line in the 4th verse of Bad Guy is the one that pisses me off the most. Eminem's in rare form with that verse, and yet he just can't resist putting in another "shit" pun because he thought of "backing it all up" fitting the rhyme scheme.

Such a trivial fucking thing, to let a single line from a song ruin the whole thing for you.
