Love the Way You Lie > The Monster, and I'll tell you why

My main point is something that has been said by Aone or Rev or EmBase, I don't remember which one.

I think The Monster was just a greedy attempt at profit after the LTWYL success. In my opinion, LTWYL is more genuine, from the quantity of bars Em did per verse to the fact that was a shot in the dark. Interscope couldn't be sure that the song would be a hit.

Then, in The Monster, Em made that formulaic 16 bars verse + hook + 16 bars verse + hook + 16 bars verse + hook thing. And we know that Em had a lot more to say when the 3rd verse was ending:

It's nothing, I'm still friends with the...

He HAD to finish the verse, stopping his stream of consciousness. And I don't like that in a rap artist, especially since Em on MMLP2 completely ignored that and was stacking bars on bars on bars in multiple songs.

2nd point: Besides the window pain pun, I do prefer Eminem's verses on LTWYL. His delivery was more sincere to me, and his lyrics/subject matter were dope too.

Theres no originality about the song, I personally knew what the hook was the second i saw the tracklist, he wasn't going to slam Rihanna on a lyrical juggernaut of a song.

I also find most of the lyrics wack. 'fame made me a balloon' was cringeworthy.

Thats what gets me, people like to throw around that word too much. SO much garbage is spit daily, and that line by comparison is not "cringeworthy"


Anyway, I think Love the way you lie is a better song, though i dont necessarily agree with Rauls explanation.
To me I think the topic he tackled in love the way you lie was more interesting, though i think thats subjective.

As some people have said, the verses to the monster do feel cut off at the ends, where as to me love the way you lie looks like it was put together exactly how it should have been. But i dont think its a corporate move, I dont think anyone is making Eminem do anything. And I still think the monster is a good song.

Makes perfect sense to me.
Also, the production on The Monster is more daring, TM fits way better into the MMLP2 narrative, and the content is almost as powerful as LTWYL; it isn't another (now) generic Eminem song about struggling with/hating fame, it's an admission that he (finally) gets along with it, with is made even more powerful by the placement of the song; just after STIW and in the context of the MMLP2 as an album.
Also, about the choice of Rih, I don't know any other artist who is on such good terms with the monster. under her bed.

is anything but trite, esp considering the history of both artists.
TL; DR Meh, both brilliant songs.
