I think many hold him to a totally different standard( I dont necessarily mean higher or lower just to a different one) than other rappers. When Eminem spits a corny line its the end of the world, but theres countless rappers that do the same if not worse and can totally get away with it. It becomes, "oh you dont listen to this artist or that artist like you do with Eminem." I think it all ties in to what we specifically want to hear from him, and if it doesnt conform to our preconceived notions of what he should be, then we're not happy... Or we're in shock and surprise.

I feel this higher level of scrutiny a lot of us inflict upon his music prevents us from being open to hearing different things from him. Things such as him rapping on a trap beat. As much as I eventually grew to really enjoy songs like "so far.." and "love game" they totally came out of left field to me sonically. I liked them initially, but it took awhile for me to really get into it, because its not what I would ever expected to hear from him. I think for a lot of us he was the first rapper we really got into, and we've pigeon holed him into certain sounds which makes it hard for us to accept other sounds that could be equally as great. Im not saying he's always successful, but we seem more resistant to Eminems experimentation than to say Kanyes, or Jays. This obviously wouldn't always hold true, just when it deviates too far away from we expect from him.

I hope Im making some level of sense here lol.

I'm curious what Em would sound like over a soul sample such as some of the production on The College Dropout.

I'd love for him to do an album with just Madlib and guests.

TheBoss123 pretty much hit the nail on the head.
We seem to have a certain strict idea of what an Eminem song/album/guest feature should sound like, and when it doesn't conform to that, then we don't like it.
At least initially.
It might also because his experimentation tends to be more lyric based rather than production wise; flows, different delivery, etc.

Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

Thank you. :b:

yeah, I think it throws people off as well. I think Em likes to play with expectations that we're never really prepared, and even though the only albums I dont like are Re-up or Encore( for the most part) Im always anxious about the music. Excited but also anxious.

I'd like for him to experiment new sounds and work with new producers. Sid Roams, Emile and Rubin have been producing fire for him lately, I like what he is choosing. Let's see what he'll have in stores for us in terms of production on Shady XV.

I doubt this will ever happen.

They were both on Forever, but it's not like they linked up for it. I've never seen a picture of them together either. It's weird becauseKanye has given Em props before and vice versa.

Perhaps it's all ego bullshit. I doubt Kanye will ever reach out and tell Em he wants to work with him and Em isn't the type of guy to ask either.

Kanye most likely doesn't want Em on his album. Kanye said he considered taking Nicki Minaj off MBDTF because he knew she had arguably the best verse on the album. I doubt he would intentionally put himself in that position.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason.

Not to mention that it was produced before Kanye West became Kanye West... nobody gave a shit about him back then.

We want a collaboration now that they are 2 of the biggest names in the genre.

Exactly my point :y:

Sometimes I'll have to listen to it a couple of times to get adjusted, but generally as long as it sounds good and it's original I'll support it. Like "Berzerk", I had absolutely no idea what I was listening to the first time I heard it and knew I had to listen a few more times to let it sink it...I was not expecting Eminem to have a Beastie Boys-influenced party song as the first single to his album, in 2013. It's something he's never done before at all. I have confidence that Eminem would be able to pull off something like trap if he doesn't try to make it all like "Twerk Dat Pop That", which I enjoyed but honestly I would have preferred him to just parody that style of music rather than do what he did. Maybe if someone who he was familiar with like Bizarre got him on one of his trap-influenced projects he could just spew some ridiculous shit the way Biz or someone like 2 Chainz does. Em has a very distinct sense of humor in rap so it would be interesting for him to do that for a song or a guest appearance.

Yeah Berzerk fucked with my head the first time I heard it. I don't think anybody was expecting a song like that when it was released. It also took me several listens to get adjusted and really take in the new sound and unusual production (at least for Em at the time) but after a little while I found the song to be very dope.
