Madlib Medicine Show series (12 CDs in one year)

Postby DrRapid » Apr 30th, '10, 23:05

Madlib is launching Madlib Medicine Show, a once-a-month, twelve-CD, six-LP series through the year of 2010 on his own imprint, Madlib Invazion. Odd numbers, beginning with #1 in Jan. 2010, will be original hip-hop, remix, beat tape and jazz productions; even numbers will be mixtapes of funk, soul, Brazilian, psych, jazz and other undefined forms of music from the Beat Konducta's 4-ton* stack of vinyl.

At the moment Madlib is about to release his fifth volume of his Medicine Show series. Up to now he's released and we know of these albums:

Madlib Medicine Show No. 1: Before The Verdict
Hip-hop album feat. Guilty Simpson. Full-length, 17-tracks, combining new material and remixes.

Madlib Medicine Show No. 2: Flight to Brazil Mixtape. 80-minutes of Brazilian psyche, folk and jazz.

Madlib Medicine Show No. 3: Beat Konducta in Africa
Hip-hop album. Inspired by and based on African records of the early 1970s – obscure & independent vinyl gems from afro-beat, funk, psych-rock, garage-rock & soul movements from Africa.

Madlib Medicine Show No. 4: 420 Chalice All-Stars
Mixtape. All Jamaican sounds, 80 minutes. Complete with Los Angeles medicinal marijuana guide.

Madlib Medicine Show No. 5: The History of the Loop Digga, 1990-2000 Hip-Hop album. Madlib's formative years of producing beat cassette for local rap crew Crate Digga's Palace.

I've checked his first 2 volumes and they're pretty good and different I must say. Madlib's production is rather peculiar and that's what I think makes him so good. I think it's great how he's chosen to release and LP each month, I love consistency. I don't know how many Madlib fans there are in this forum, to be honest, I doubt anyone will even take a look at this but I still thought of sharing it. :y:

Another 'Lib fan on the forum, at last! :b:

Madlib is my favorite producrer ever, bar RZA, and I think it's pretty amazing that he's managing to release so many albums this year, an album each month and as far as I know thats NOT including the new Madvillain, and maybe a few other albums too, his consistency is incredible, he's probably the hardest working dude in the whole music industry

I haven't checked out any of the Medicine show releases in full yet, but from what I have heard they all sound good, the latest one "420 Chalice All-Stars Mixtape" is meant to be pretty epic, and Ive heard great things about the OJ Simpson album
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Well Madlib has shitloads of beats dating back to the 90s and I guess he wanted to use them eventually one day. Not all of the LPs are original music, but remixes using old beats put together. An example of this is the first volume, he remixes every track in Guilty Simpson's debut album. I think it came out quite well really, could of been better though.

Cool, I didn't know there would be another Madlib fan around here either. :y: Yeah I haven't listened to his 4th volume yet, I will in some time. After giving the first one a few listens it gets better each time. But it's not even meant to be one of the best ones which are out yet so that's pretty good. The second volume I haven't listened to properly but it's strange yet cool at the same time, he chose to make Brazilian folk and jazz beats.
