J Cole Talks Second Album

Postby Man1x » Jul 6th, '12, 05:34

Not only does J. Cole have material ready for his second LP…he has too many records. So many, that Cole World hinted at releasing a mixtape before his sophomore album sees the day of light.

“I got too many songs,” Cole told XXL from the Ciroc Lounge of the Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey after his Hot 97 Summer Jam performance. “I gotta figure out how to put out a project out before the album. I gotta figure that out. I have too many songs.

“I’m working on it,” added Cole, about his second album, crashing an already-in-progress interview (at 3:30 mark) with 2 Chainz and Big Sean. “It’s coming.”

At Summer Jam, Cole—who performed with a live band—had his own set, coming on the stage throwing up the Roc diamond and going into “Mr. Nice Watch” and later “Work Out.” Cole’s special guest of the night was Trey Songz, who sang the hook on Cole’s hit single, “Can’t Get Enough.”

“It’s crazy,” Cole said of getting on the stage in front of over 60,000 people. “It’s a whole ’nother feeling. I got nerves. I never get nervous before shows. I got nerves [performing at Summer Jam]. That’s how many people it is.”

Cole can look forward to performing in front of many more big crowds in the coming weeks. That’s because, Cole—like Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz and French Montana—is an opening act on Drake’s Club Paradise Tour. Cole’s latest single, “Nobody’s Perfect,” featuring Missy Elliott, continues to get solid airplay on radio stations nationwide.

The label made him have a mainstream sound on that debut, it would have sounded the same even with more time. J Cole just gave in too easily and did the label's bidding, he should have compromised with them by putting on a few mainstream songs and a few songs that reflect on his style. That's another thing that's good about Kendrick's position, he has creative control and is the one who decides the final track listing, which will work him wonders in his career I believe. To bad Cole didn't have that kind of deal. I hope the second album is better than the first and that his joint album with Kendrick Lamar is a classic as well. I want to see good things from this guy.

Yeah, I really enjoy his mixtapes.. I would have been fine with singles like Blow Up on Cole World.. Work Out was a sign of bad things to come for that album. I will still give him a chance, of course.

Kendrick doesn't have the voice to make poppy songs either way imo.. he wont attract a mainstream fanbase like most guys.

Every artists deserves three chances in my opinion, after that, I don't fuck with them any more. And in terms of Kendrick Lamar not having a poppy voice, you're right. However, I think his voice will attract many people like Eminem's voice did, and he will become massive in the mainstream without having to compromise his music just like how Eminem started off his career. Will he be as massive as Eminem? Probably not, but he will be huge. I can just feel it online, his support is massive on the web, and every time I meet a few new people, at least some of them have heard of someone in Black Hippy.

This!!
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I liked Cole World, but it could have been so much better.

I remember someone from a J Cole site reviewed the album before it's release and was in love with it, then hated the final version.
