This is still ignoring the fact that more often than not being mainstream entails being marketable or having broad appeal which again is not a necessarily good thing (or bad thing), there's too many variables to just say that, "Welp he's talented he's gonna get famous", if only music was that simple if fucking only.

Well, I agree to an extent with this. The artist that make it big most of the time are sell outs willing to compromise but you can build an online following. Look at Tech N9ne for example. He's keeping his music the way he wants it, but he did have to make his beat selection a little more friendly to start selling records and a shout out from Wayne. But hey, Wayne recognized him because of his talent.

I love ab soul but without Kendrick I wouldnt have heard of him and without dre I wouldn't have found Kendrick

I heard about Kendrick from online hype and I saw Sectiom.80 on iTunes when it came out. I didn't know of his connections to Dr. Dre when I first heard him.
