1. Pick beats that go well with your rap technique
2. Learn from (but don't copy) the greats
3. Have features, but don't let them show you up
4. Every album should have a concept behind it
5. Re-invent yourself every few years; don't stay stale
6. Diversify your tracks; different songs about everything
7. Multi's are nice but mean nothing if there's no message
8. Go light on the autotune
9. Have something unique about you (to separate yourself)
10. Take the time to write and proofread your lyrics
