I feel sorry for these dudes.
Macklemore is actually quite a talented MC, but because he's achieved mainstream success people are viewing him for the impact but not for content.
Motherfuckers need to realize that The Heist is actually quite an original album, when it comes to concepts.
I mean even his radio singles, "Thrift Shop" - shopping for second hand clothing, "Same Love" - gay rights, "Wings" - consumerism and using Nikes as a metaphor for it.
Sure he isn't the greatest lyricist but he's a great entertainer if not a decent rapper.
I can't relate to being the average, white suburban, formerly drug addicted, rich kid - I dunno if his family was wealthy - but I can relate to some of his other messages and understand them.
"Otherside" is an example of a good message and story.
But "Thrift Shop" has increased his fan base but a lot of people who've now jumped on the bandwagon, over hype the shit of him, which leads to Underground heads downplaying him a heap.
I can understand why people don't like him though, his shit doesn't appeal to everyone.
In fact I'd go so far as to say that The Heist has around 10 or so really good songs and he could've made a classic if he cleaned it up a bit.
