As if he needed it, this week marks another big win for Jay-Z. Yesterday Hov reportedly signed a deal with Warner/Chappell Music for himself and the entirety of the Roc Nation label. Warner/Chappell will now own the publishing rights to all of Jay’s music from 2008 on and will have access to the musical catalogues of his Roc Nation’s signees.

Here’s what the man himself had to say about the deal:

“The real meaning of success is being in the position to work with an individual you consider a friend. Jon Platt is such a person. He’s a man of extraordinary character as well as a remarkably talented executive with an ear for music and an eye for talent. It’s great to watch him grow to be one the best in the business.”
And here’s how Warner/Chappell’s President of Creative, Jon Platt weighs in:

“I first partnered with Jay in 1996, and it’s been thrilling to work with my friend over the past 16 years as he’s grown into one of the world’s best songwriters and become a global icon. He consistently breaks new ground, producing an incredible body of work that will be enjoyed by generations of fans to come. At the same time, Roc Nation is one of the most dynamic and influential music companies around. It is home to an extraordinary collection of hit-makers, who are writing and producing many of today’s most popular songs and collaborating with the world’s most successful artists. I couldn’t be happier to continue my relationships with Jay and Roc Nation and build on our partnerships at Warner/Chappell.”

Is he actually signed or is this just a publishing deal?

So no more Def Jam?
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

^ Jay hasn't been on Def Jam for coming up on 4 years now. He bought out his contract in 2009, and moved his music--namely Blueprint 3--after that to Roc Nation.
