I actually wish they hadn't made WTT

Postby FreeSpeech » Aug 14th, '11, 14:58

OK, 1st off, I love the album. It's great, AOTY candidate.

However, I can see it have being far better if it'd been split into 2 albums. 1 Kanye, 1 Jay. It was still a coherent album, but some songs you could tell were KAnye album type songs and some were Jay's. I think the fact that I was expecting something like MBDTF (in terms of amzingness, not style) kinda hurt my opinion of it, but whatever.
Here's how I see the songs divided, basically:
No Church In The Wild, New Day, Murder To Excellence, and Made In America all had the making of a classic Kanye album. They just had that Kanye feel. Everything else felt like Jay's shit.

IDK, Jay and Kanye are both in my top 10, but I feel like these songs could have been used better. I liked MBDTF and Blueprint 3 (yes, it's a crazy good album) better than WTT. Songs like Nikkas In Paris (can we remove the censor? I'm sick of using k's) would never, ever make a Kanye album purely because of the style.

While WTT shat on H:TS, it was more disappointing. I feel like the songs on WTT could have been used to make a classic Kanye album, and a real dope Jay album. On H:TS, the only song with any real album merit was The Reunion.

Oh well, Kanye said he saved alot of WTT music for his next album so hopefully it doesn't matter. Mr. West has never made a disappointing solo yet, so i ain't worried :coffee:

Lol.

With over a year of preparation I was hoping they could beat H:TS, but its amazing that they couldn't. As a rap album, WTT fuckin sucks.

No. No it doesn't. :coffee:

As a "let's spit as fast we can and see how many corny punchlines we can say" rap album, WTT fuckin sucks.

I'm not turning this into WTT vs HTS. And they didn't have over a year. They only worked on it in person, which is mad hard to do when Kanye's coming off his album release, touring and everything.

For me, WTT didn't live up to expectations. Some of the songs are very short and they let the beat run for a good 30-40 seconds at the end. Liftoff was a dud (with respect to the hype). I didn't enjoy the album as a whole. Jay & Kanye's previous solo albums are light years ahead of this shit. But at the end of the day, its not a wack album at least.

MBDTF > BP3 > H:TS > WTT | Lighters > Liftoff .
They say the good die young... Proof, YOU'RE NEVER OVER.

Haha I know. It was clearly planned. That's why they have lots of different producers, especially ones like Bangladesh that they don't know personally. Interscope wouldn't let Em just put random shit out, and they promoted it pretty well.

I don't wanna sound like a jerk and break your fantasy but.. Eminem had a cd with beats sent from the Recovery Era.

Welcome 2 Hell - was sent for Recovery
Echo - It was created for T.I
Living Proof - For Success Is Certain
I'm On Everything - Just a "wefuckaroundtrack" like a lot of artists have.
Take From Me was made long time ago, Koolo leaked the snippet and then Eminem jumped on the song.

But some songs were meant to be on the EP and were created FOR the ep, that's obvious.

I know he has beats sent, he obviously doesn't custom order every beat. And how do you KNOW what those beats are from?

And they obviously put thought into this, it was't just fucking around. It was intended to be very good. And you don't think they (Royce) planned Bruno? Bullshit. This was intended to be big. You all act llike these were tracks they had just laying around that they compiled. No.

Well, I just read the interviews where it's said that Echo, Living Proof weren't for Eminem basically. Welcome 2 Hell was for Recovery.

Of course it was intended. When they felt like they were going to do the album, they made more tracks. I'm not saying all the tracks were made just in a "fuck around" session. Like.. Lighters, A Kiss and The Reunion were the last track made, when they had the project to do the EP.

But they didn't start recording the first songs with the thought of making a EP. You feel me?

LOL that doesn't matter at all. They were still tracks intended to be released, be it on Em's shit, Royce's shit, SH, whatever. So they were intended to be good.

I'm not criticizing HTS for not flowing like an album, I'm saying that except for The Reunion, everything was forgettable. No Church/New Day/Made in Amerca >>>> Everything except The Reunion. If you like the rapid fire and punchines OK, but it's more or less bullshit. I'll listen to No Church years from now, I won't listen to A Kiss. Get it?

Yeah but that's just you. Kanye and Jay had a long time to prepare this album and you know it aswell as me.

And The Reunion isn't even the best song on the album. I'd rather hear some shit like Welcome 2 Hell, Take from Me and Above the Law then the songs you quoted, except no day and gotta have it that i like a lot.

I just wanted to point out the fact that they didn't sit down and talk like "we're going to make an album Em. Write your ideas, we're buying/making some beats, come up with dope concept, it's gonna be a revolutionnary album" whereas WTT had high expectations.

^ Yeah, it's for Relapse. Em's memory is bad. My bad too, anyway maybe Em meant he had these beats for Relapse and then he wanted to use them for Recovery but didn't or i don't know.. Drugs fuck you up lol.

Of course that fuckin matters. Em had Fly Away stored in the vault and it didn't seem like he was gonna use that for anything and it was DOPE as hell.

:facepalm how do you not get this...
I'm saying these were'nt unreleased bullshit songs they haphazardly put out. They're studio tracks that were intended to be good. I never said Em doesn't have dope unreleased shit...

How the fuck can you say you'll listen to something years from now, Nostradamus?

Because songs like No Church I know I'll listen to??? It's on the relative level of Jay/Ye stuff from way back like Heard Em Say that I still listen to routinely years later. Shit like A Kiss I know I won't listen to much.

Secondly, the EP flowed flawlessly until Lighters came up.

Never said it didn't, all I said was I WASN'T criticizing HTS for not flowing like an album because it obviously didn't and taht's irrelevant...

Thirdly, you gotta be ignorant as FUCK to say No Church/New Day/Made in America > anything else on the EP, including W2H.

Welcome 2 Hell
is the absolute pinnacle of mainstream emcee rapping. That shit is hardcore, and I could never picture slow ass Kanye doing something like that with Jay, nah, they've lost the emcee in them.

:facepalm
What makes you think that's the only/best way to rap? If that's what you dig, OK, but at the end of it it was meaningless babble. Statements like this are the epitome of what's wrong with "hip hop heads". They think unless your spitting fire, crazy punchline, and rhyming your ass off, you're wack. I'd be PISSED if Kanye started spitting Slaughterhouse type shit.
Give me real talk like No Church or New Day over "Oh shit look how good a rapper I am!" songs any day :coffee:

i just think its unfair to compare a 16 track fully thought out full length release with a 9 track EP.

in terms of music and vibe,WTT is better than the EP.

but i will slice my left nut off if Em and royce went balls out and made an album, kanye and hov wouldnt stand a chance.

but overall,WTT >>>>>> BME

i fucking love kanye!
The devil ain't on a level same as him!
