Rapper Game has claimed that the continual delay of his fourth studio LP The R.E.D. Album was a deliberate decision.

Game, real name Jayceon Taylor, said that he put back the album's release to ensure it came out at a time when it would cause the most controversy.

"I been working on [the album] for a long time but I kept delaying it because I wanted to drop right in the middle of [Jay-Z and Kanye West's] Watch the Throne and [Lil Wayne's] Tha Carter IV," Game explained to Billboard. "That's my own ingenious plan."

The new album includes collaborations with the likes of Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Drake and Nelly Furtado, and Interscope marketing director Jason Sangerman described the record as a 'thank you' to the rapper's fanbase.

"The R.E.D. Album has been in the works for a long time and Game's fanbase has remained loyal, so we want to make sure they get what they deserve," Sangerman added. "Game's fans are loyal to him because he is loyal to his fans."

The rapper may be facing criminal charges after the phone number of a Los Angeles sheriff department was posted on his Twitter account, asking fans to phone up for an internship.

Game will release The R.E.D. Album on August 23.
