I'm kinda off rap nowadays

Postby FreeSpeech » Aug 27th, '11, 00:36

I mean, I do listen but it doesn't excite me as much as it used to. I still listen to it more than any genre, but I've been on hiphop influenced singer/songwriter stuff more now. Check this newish shit out if you haven't (I was inspired to make this by RaidGod's review BTW):

Best album I've heard recently.

Weeknd is TOO good, amazing all around.
Image
I slept on him because of his dumb name and he's on Maybach Music, but he shit's on Rick Ross' whole roster.

Kinda like 808s and Heartbreak, love it.

I relate in a way. I've been stearing away from all that multi/complex rhyme scheme, underground, pointless bragging type of music and have begun to enjoy stuff more like Watch The Throne. I really believe WTT has changed my view on Hip Hop music and writing it.

I am not showing any signs of getting tired of replaying WTT. Amazing album.

:y: Yep. If you like Frank Ocean on WTT, listen to Nostalgia, Ultra. Shit, if you hated him on WTT listen to it, incredible album! I honestly haven't heard as good a songwriter in ages and his vocals are insane.

If Take Care isn't amazing, I'll be pissed at Drake. Weeknd is working on it and Drake's new style rocks, C4 has let me down enough...

The Weeknd is pretty good. Masspike Miles reminds me a little of a mix between Craig David & Neyo.

Frank Ocean is great. I've listened to Swim Good & Nature Feels so many times.

Frank Ocean deserves a listen just based on his hook on No Church In The Wild. One of the hooks of the year tbh. I'll listen to his album when I get the chance, I'm expecting greatness based on Novacane, WTT and all the hype it's getting.

I agree on Take Care. That shit must be excellent, I'd like a mix of the best moments of TML (Over, Light Up), So Far Gone and his new style. Can't wait.

WHY are people turning gay AGAING?
(Remember 2006-2008)
Actually don't, because it's the saddest time period for mainstream hip-hop.
And in the best month for hip-hop in a while now, people turn to rap crossovers or pop...
Don't understand it...

LOL insecure much?

There's literally nothing gay or corny about any of this music.

You ain't hard dude, I'd rather listen to expert songwriting than some fake hard shit by rappers pretending they're tough.

None of the music I listed is rap crossover or pop, so....have fun being ignorant :coffee:

BTW if you think singing=gay, SMH.

Oh man, you missed my point by a mile. Singing=not(gay) but having fans of THIS, and the same time fans of Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole or Big KRIT and expecting them to make you feel the same way, or being able to play or radio or clubs just doesn't work. People connecting with rap like it because of realness of it. (Ex: J. Cole "Me real shit you rnb"). Now, these guys not being able to live and enjoy the popularity like their gay-like music peers like this makes them crossover to pop and dance or something. Do you understand me now?
Oh, and if you don't think that Frank Ocean is a BIT, just a BIT gay, you're outta your mind...

"Sweet King Martin
Sweet Queen Coretta
Sweet Brother Malcolm
Sweet Queen Betty
Sweet Mother Mary
Sweet Father Joseph, Sweet Jesus

We made it in America
Sweet Baby Jesus, ooooh
oh sweet baby Jesus
We made it in America

Oh, Sweet Baby Jesus, We made it in America
Sweet Baby Jesus, ooooh
Oh, Sweet Baby Jesus, We made it in America"
really...

I can relate to this post 100%, I made the same turn myself around 2 years ago, I think after listening to so much "technical" style of rap fo so long you begin to realise it's the same stuff over different beats, that aren't even that enjoy to listen to.....Personally, I'd rather hear a well produced album, with a rapper that's charismatic and has their own style, rather than some super technical emcee rapping about the same shit I've 1000 times before over bland production

As for the thread, I definitely agree to extent: Most hip hop albums released this year sound predicable compared to something like James Blake or The Weeknd, I'm not saying that's a good or a bad thing, but it's albums like the new Cunninlynguists album, the new Big KRIT, Section 80, WTT, that have caught my attention the most this year, because they're trying to push the boundaries of what a typical hip hop album should sound like....

Don't get me wrong, there IS still raw hip hop coming out that I'm liking, that Roc Marciano & Alchemist + Oh No EP is crazy, Random Axe was a banger, new Raekwon was dope, the new Apathy album is something I've been hearing good things about too, but it's like, before you even listen to these albums you already know what to expect, there's no element of surprise I was suppose is what my point is, which for me, loses replay value pretty quickly
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

*Made In America lyrics*

You're a moron. These guys aren't intended to be played in clubs, it's more alt music. It isn't generic R&B, pop, or dance music whatsoever. Realness? You haven't even listened to this music you ignorant fuck. From Frank alone, We All Try, American Wedding, Nature Feels, and There Will Be Tears are as "real" as a song can get.

And no, there's nothing gay about that at all. You really just sound like an insecure 13 year old who yells "Gay!" at everything so everyone knows he isn't.

IDGAF if you don't listen to this msuic, your loss, but your criticisms of it are ridiculously unfounded.
