Quite, one of the only good Hip-Hop artists in existence. That includes dead or alive.

He's not too bad.

I like his originality. He seems to want to test new waters every time he drops an album. I'm not really a fan, but I'd say he's a talented and significant artist in hip hop for sure.

He really is amazing. However, I'm a little disappointed with Cruel Summer and I really hope he'll produce more on his next solo.

I know I'm not the only one thinking that, right?

In all honesty, I'd give Cruel Summer a 5/5. It's such a cinematic experience...definitely the type of music that should be representing GOOD Music.

Kanye's penmanship has progressively grown over the years, and it's evident in songs like "Clique" and "New God Flow", which are both excellent songs by the way and obviously two of the few stand out ones.

I don't even mind the party hits, they fit the album to me. John Legend's vocals on "Bliss" are out-of-this-world insane. I literally have nothing but good things to say about this album.

Geno wrote:Kanye on Clique is a great example of his progressive penmanship? LOL if people believe this why do they have a hard time believing D12 has been progressively becoming better writers as well. You guys are delusional one way or the other. I don't mind Kanye tbh. I usually just hate his production / the beats he uses so I don't listen to him. He's good on beats like NIP. He's a good artist / producer, I just don't have the same musical aesthetics as he does.

Also, how can this album be 5/5 if half the tracks are old as hell?

Yes, "Clique" is a great example of Kanye's penmanship. No one even brought up D12 so it's irrelevant.

Which tracks are "old as hell"?

Geno's logic: Track released before release date can't be good.. THEY CANT.

He's an amazing artist, but rapper? Nope. And Kanye is one of my favorite rappers too, so I'm not hating. Just being real.

No, he's not.
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Firstly, I agree. Kanye west is Godly and has the best discography in rap, imo.

Second, I highly disagree with Cruel Summer being a 5/5 and showing how Kanye has progressed as a rapper (although his verses are good). Cruel Summer actually could have been a LOT better and it can't be 5/5 with I Don't Like and Mercy on it. Also that Cudi song was a huge disappointment.

BUT, Kanye west is a very underrated lyricist on here. His verse on Never Let Me Down is an example of good lyricism from him.

Yeah I don't know why but some fans can't get into it. I'm guessing it's because when people listen to Kanye they want soulful feel-good music and MBDTF is a lot darker than his previous albums (other than 808s). I love it though, it's tied for CD as his best album for me.

The only problem I have with it are the two posse cuts. Monster is pretty good though, Bon Iver is great, Jay-Z has a good verse, Kanye is good, and although Nicki Minaj probably dropped the verse of her career on that song, it's still extremely corny imo. Swizz Beatz is annoying as always and Cyhi Da Prince is :s on So Appaled so it's automatically one of the lower tracks, even with the good features from RZA, Jay and Pusha T. I just don't usually like posse cuts (AOTL being an exception on this album).

Everything else is basically perfect though. From the fantastic (and arguably his best) intro, the incredible hook by Cudi and great verses by Kanye and Raekwon on Gorgeous, the soulful and calming beat on DIAND with a surprisingly good verse from Rick Ross as well as Kanye, to Runaway, which is in my top 3 Kanye songs.

Hell Of a Life is also underrated imo. It doesn't sound great, but it's actually a very deep song. Blame Game is classic, and Lost In The World is a very suiting outro. More Bon Iver is a plus too. This and 808s are huge artistic shifts from his last albums, Kanye's always been creative but I think MBDTF was his artistic peak. Don't know if he can top it.

Kanye did say that his next album will be lighter than MBDTF, though. I love both of his darker albums but I am excited to hear some College Dropout/Late Registration type stuff from him again.
