50 Cent - The rapper that attracted most people to Rap ?

Postby Emshady2 » Jan 14th, '13, 22:12

I can't think of any rapper that has been attracted most people to rap. When he came out , He was the rapper that made my listen more to the early 90´s and so on. I heard of Eminem and 2pac but they wasn't at good when I was younger. 50 had the gangster type songs that I liked when I was a kid.

My friends also say that 50 was the reason that they listened to rap. I know it was anyway very famous , but who could you think of that has been getting people to listen to rap?

Em , Pac , Jay z?

I'll admit the first time I ever heard rap was when my friend played GRODT for me and that's when I started getting into the genre. Before that I listened to country :facepalm

I did, when I started handing out my demo tapes the whole block was bumping my shit :shifty:

On a serious note first time I listened to rap was when I got a burned disc from my cousin with mostly west coast gangster rap, and the first album I ever owned was GRODT.

Eminem is who attracted me to rap but I can honestly see someone's first rap song being a song with 50 Cent on it. He used to be HUGE back in the day.

Classic album , Really 50 had a very big impact on hip hop in general. Still doesn't get the props he really deserves

Yeah man , I live in Europe , back when I was 8 years old , at the time 50 dropped GRODT , I didn't know anyone that really bumped Eminem's album , just a few songs like The Real Slim Shady and Lose yourself

But when Encore came out , it changed my opinion about him

Yeah it was 50 Cent and Eminem. Basically, in Europe, the whole Shady Aftermath camp was huge.

I used to listen to Eminem & rock songs but I couldn't listen to any other hip hop artists.
50 cent is the one who attracted me to hip hop, he made me listen to pac, nas etc

But that's just because most of the people here are of the age that they would be first getting into music when 50 Cent and co was huge. You wait five years and ask the people our age that question and it will be all about Lil Wayne.

This thread makes me feel old, I was 18 when GRODT was released and was heavily into rap/hip-hop by that time.

I remember buying Wu Tang's Forever the day it dropped and I spent the better part of a weekend learning the lyrics to Triumph.

Shit....I remember buying rap CASSETTE TAPES...

Definitely saw an influx of new fans to the genre within my social circle when 50 released Get Rich or Die Trying. I would definitely credit him with turning a decent number of recreational hip hop listeners to regular supporters of rap.

I wouldn't say that no.

If you're going on sales (an actual measure of how many people were attracted to it... regardless of quality), then Eminem attracted the most people. And I think it's pretty obvious he bridged gaps larger than any other rapper; it certainly wasn't 50 Cent, imo.
