It's MTV. I have a feeling Macklemore is going to get shafted even though he deserves the #2 spot. Hell....Nas might get shafted as well in place of Wiz Khalifa....

I called it. Just throwing that out there.

Rap-Up TV: Kendrick Lamar Weighs In on MTV’s Hottest MCs List And Talks About Kanye West

Kanye West has been very vocal about his position on MTV’s “Hottest MCs in the Game” list. But he’s not the only one with an opinion. Kendrick Lamar is speaking out on the controversial top 10 rankings.

“It’s very important for hip-hop,” the Compton MC told Rap-Up TV on set of T.I.’s video for “Memories Back Then.” “I love that they have debates like that. We need that. It’s competitive. Even though we doing these collaborations and stuff like that and we cool, at the same time, this is still rap. It’s still competitive and I’m trying to compete with everybody to be the best.”

He embraces the debate. “When people feel like they need to make their comments, I feel that’s needed,” said K-Dot. “You’re supposed to feel like you’re the best ’cause if you don’t, you gon’ get stepped on ’cause it’s a jungle out there.”

He agreed that Kanye, who ranked at #7, deserved a higher spot. “It’s Kanye. He’s been putting in work for years.”

Find out if Kendrick takes the top spot when the full list is revealed later today.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear from him, Hip hop is competition !
That smile ! Pretty sure he said the list was very important because he wanted to make Kanye mad about his 7th spot

Can someone answer why Wiz isn't on the list ? He dropped O.N.I.F.C (sold well) , Grammy nominated , featured on huge singles, had the 2050 tour that was sold out every show. Stayed hot with bunch of songs and remixes, so how do they really judge ? Who is the best ? In that case , 2CHAINZ shouldn't even be in top 30

Mtv looks at Sales, Impact, buzz/hype, Lyrics, the style, etc

1) Almost every major album released before SEPTEMBER was nominated at the grammy (Kendrick & Asap should be nominated for the Grammy 2014) but wiz wasn't nominated for his album.
2) ONIFC isn't one of the best selling albums of the year (Kendrick, 2 chainz, TI, Macklemore and a lot of other artists outsold him)

Even if wiz sold more copies than some other artists like Asap or Meek Mill, they had a bigger buzz/hype & impact and they were praised as fuck. (+ critically acclaimed albums)
ONIFC wasn't even well received at all, it received a lot mixed reviews :(

btw, They are supposed to announce #1 & #2 in 6 hours :y:

Why would Macklemore be on this list? He dropped an album and a nice radio single. Probably had a couple of shows too. That's it. No one was hopping on a track with him. Drake, Kanye, A$AP Rocky weren't thinking of hopping on a joint with this hipster-ass-white boy.

2Chainz my nigga.

2Chainz my *****.

Given the supposed criteria (sales/buzz/impact etc...), it shouldn't be very hard to make a case for a Macklemore position inside the Top 10 this year. I mean, the dude has - so far - spent some 8 weeks at #1 the US, and has [so far] hit #1 in 15+ countries with Thrift Shop. The album, which initially was projected to sell some 50k in total, is now at ~400k+. Macklemore's total YouTube-views has gone from 5-10 mil to 210 mil+. He started out this year with less than 100k Facebook fans; this number is now up to ~850k. The album, 'The Heist', has also been quite critically acclaimed, XXL rated it a 4/5, HipHopDX 4/5 (user rating: 4.32). The Metacritic average is at 76/100.

He toured the US last spring, all sold out, and followed that up last autumn with a European tour, all sold out, then another US tour, all sold out. Macklemore addressed social issues with 'Same Love', and did so quite successfully (it hit #1 in a couple of countries), and it made quite a buzz in general. Last, but not least, he achieved all this without being signed to major label, which is quite an accomplishment.

Whether you like Macklemore or not, it's hard to objectively deny the impact & success he's had & continue to have.

And lmao @ "No one was hopping on a track with him" . He was practically underground before last autumn.

Yeah, plus I don't think you need to be on everyone's song to be hot. I mean the guy got 4 platinum plaques for Thrift Shop, and it's probably the most played/bought Hip Hop song of 2012/2013.

His album sold really well, and it's going gold soon. 420 000 copies sold. Not that bad for someone who wasn't very famous earlier in 2012, right? I think every trap/rap song now sound the same, with the same artists and the same shitty trap beat. So it's refreshing to hear someone like Macklemore on the radio, even though thrift shop is being overplayed.

He definitely deserves a spot there, way more than Meek Mill or Future. That's a fact.. Just because he doesn't collab with the same guys that we always hear on radio or see on TV doesn't mean he's not hot lol.

Dude really blew up. He deserves a top 10 spot. And I'd argue that Mgk does too, at least as much as Meek Mill or Future, but anyway lol.

Kendrick won
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

True but the single became a hit in February and it boosted his albums sales by 200 K.
He didn't really had a" big year " ;)

But I agree that he should be in the list instead of someone like Big Sean
