You know that's a lie. This song would've been better if it was a Kendrick solo song. Admit that he put Drake on it as a selling point.
He could've gone solo or thrown somebody from TDE or the West Coast on this song (Dre, Snoop, Game, come to mind). Drake sticks out like a sore thumb on this album....or like an extroverted homosexual in a room full of gang members.
Aone10 wrote:I still think it's the worst song on the album and Drake was out of place. How are you going to make an album for the West Coast, Compton CA in particular, and have Drake on it? The only logical explanation there is for the selling point. Sure, Kendrick sold well on his own, but that's something I don't think even he anticipated, and ofcourse being under Dr. Dre's wing helps. But while the album was in it's developmental stage, I'm sure the decision to put Drake on the album was made for other reasons than for "he's perfect for the song".
I don't like Drake because he had so much promise when Comeback Season came out, that mixtape is amazing. So Far Gone was pretty good as well, not as good, but I liked some of the songs on it. Critics like the song because they are on Drake's dick. Take Care is not a masterpiece, it's just as bad as anything he's put out under Young Money. I always felt that Drake's music would've been better if he would've gone the independent route and started his own label. He certainly had the money and popularity to do it. Don't forget that when So Far Gone came out, he wasn't signed to Young Money. Lil Wayne's rectum was pulsating to sign Drake because he knew Drake was a cash cow, and Drake took it in the ass and sold out.
Then Thank Me Later was a dissappointment as was Take Care. His music is not up to par with what he has the potential of doing and he's become a phony.
Aone10 wrote:How can you say any other artist would have ruined the song if that's the only version you would have known of the song?
There are plenty of artists aside from Drake who would've made the song better.
Drake is just that, the guy you go to for a feature to make your shit sell. You can't deny that a bunch of Drake teeny poppers were put onto Kendrick because of Drake.
Drake is what Lil Wayne used to be back between 2004 and 2009, the guy you went to for a feature if you wanted the radio audiences to jump on your jock. I'm not saying that's the case with Kendrick, because it isn't.
But don't deny that Kendrick being on Take Care and having Drake on his album didn't help him reach a new audience, as did being signed by Dr. Dre.
The same can be said about Eminem when he teamed up with Dr. Dre, or 50 Cent when he teamed up with both Dre and Em.
Underground hip-hop fans already knew of Eminem back then, but it wasn't till he began working with mainstream artists that he was introduced to a new audience. The same can be said about guys like Kendrick. I've known about Kendrick since the Overly Dedicated tape came out, I wasn't the biggest fan until I heard Section.80, that album is better than GKMC in my book. And still, he was just an underground rapper till that point. Then he got the feature on Take Care and that's when the radio crowd starting asking questions, like who is this guy? Then he dropped the Recipe with Dr. Dre, then his tracklisting leaked and people saw Drake was on the album as was Dre. You can't say that doesn't help intrigue the average hip-hop listener. Skills obviously play a huge role, as does marketing.
Look at Tech N9ne, he's been a prominent figure in the hip-hop world, but you can't deny that he was introduced to a whole new crowd once Lil Wayne threw him on the Carter 4. Then having Lil Wayne on his next album obviously helped boost his sales. It's all a game, and Aftermath/Interscope played their cards right with Kendrick.
Aone10 wrote:I'm not debating the sound of the song, I'm debating marketing.
And yes, complaining about Drake being on the album.
And I wouldn't say it's a "Love" song per say, it just deals with women.
Shit, it could've been Eminem on the song, he does have the Aftermath connect and close affiliation with many West Coast artists.
It would've made it a better song and it would've reached an even bigger audience.
Kill You wrote:Lol Poetic Justice isn't a love song. As Aone put it it's just deals with women.
Eminem on Poetic Justice would have been better, funny, and ironic. Drake is painfully obvious.
