808s was great, the production was incredible. Much, much better than Encore, which wasn't actually a flop, it's 5x Platinum, but was a piece of shit.

They both had hugely successful "comeback" albums.

Neither of those albums were comeback albums.

Em's only comeback album was Relapse. And Kanye hasn't had one.

I don't even think Kanye really gave too much of a shit if people didn't like it at one point... I remember Love Lockdown and Heartless were THE singles back in 2008.

actually I consider MBTDF a comeback because he was crucified after the whole Taylor Swift thing....he took a pretty long break after that

Plus the album before (808s) left a lot of people wondering what the next album would be like. Obviously after the singles and tracks like Monster and stuff leaked it's not as if people didn't know his album was going to be great... but yeah, i've heard it referred to as a comeback album. I've also heard Recovery mentioned as eminem's comeback album. Not necissarily saying I agree with it, but it's a perception some people have. Like in the OP where it states "First three albums considered Classics", condered by whom? Thre are people who do and people who don't. Personally, I think they each have two classics at most.

That's not a comeback album though.

The Taylor Swift thing has jack shit to do with his music. Him being called a jackass or slandered in sleezy tabloids isn't truly damaging to his standing as a musician.

Eminem taking a solo break of four and a half years between albums and dropping out of the public eye completely for nearly two years, and THEN relasing, is a comeback.

Kanye however remained active. 808s was a commercial and later critical success, with some of the singles going into 2009, and he was being praised by most for his bravery and defiance in trying to push the genre to new places and being true to himself as an artist...

Then he got straight to work on 'Dark Fantasy', he was continuously active and at no point did he have a career lapse. What he does outside of his music isn't concerning his career and in actuality all this tabloid nonsense only ever HELPS, when he says he got crucified or people thinks it hurts him or whatever... of course it doesn't.

All it does is give him more publicity but as long as the music remains good, nothing else matters. He's been active since he started, he hasn't had a lapse or comeback yet.

1. I liked 808s but Encore is still a way better album.
2. Lmao @ Geno's comment
3. I don't think anyone's said this yet- they both, as producers, use samples.

Never said Em was better, or even with Kanye, but Em is still a tight producer. As for Kanye, A LOT of people are behind him.

But there are a lot of great producers that are even keel with him. Premo, 9th Wonder is pretty good, Just Blaze, etc.

I still have J. Dilla as the best producer ever though. Kanye is creeping up on him though.
