I'm a fan of Drake, I definitely enjoy his shit. I mean, there are times where I don't wanna be bothered to listen to Slaughterhouse and shit, so I pop in Take Care, and there we go. I honestly think the dude can make great music. As an emcee though, he's horrible. But as an artist, I definitely like his stuff. Same with most mainstream artists. (Except for Nicki... I'm disappointed, because she could be THAT chick if she didn't spout bullshit 80% of the time.)

In terms of globally i can't see anyone just yet. Drake perhaps is the closest. Lil Wayne peaked in the 00's and isn't that popular outside of north america.

I can see the veterans dominating for as long as they release albums. Among those being Eminem, Jay Z & Kanye. I'm sure we'll see some very popular rappers in the next few years but will they reach the levels of the greats, im not so sure.

I only see Kendrick having a chance. I feel Drake will go much of Lil Wayne's route. Really though, Eminem has command of this generation as well, his label (however) doesn't. He would gain more recognition if next album blows everything out of the water and it becomes his best.

I honestly don't mind Drake or Lil Wayne that much. Drake to me is a rapper that could do so much more but chooses not to because the fans will buy into it anyways and the same goes for Wayne.

I think the first two albums of an artist really tell you who will be the greatest. Like when The Slim Shady LP came out and did good as a debut then lead to The Marshall Mathers LP which made us realize he was here to stay followed by The Eminem Show of course that cemented his legacy.

It seems like other rappers put out albums just to do it and there's no storytelling or nothing to keep you interested in waiting for the next album. Most of the music Lil Wayne has on his albums could be released without the album while most of Em's songs have a specific and important place on his albums.

If Waynes It's Good was left off The Carter 4 and just released to the public I would not have thought anything of it. Em could not get away with releasing Stan outside of MMLP. Kinda how we realize that Stimulate should have been on The Eminem Show because it fits so well.

My point is you need some kind of story telling in my opinion. You need something for people to look back on and they can tell when you became a legend.

Honestly, pre-Thank Me Later Drake was fuckin awesome, not gonna lie. He was a totally different sound and his tracks were BUMPING hard...I remember blasting shit like "I Get Money" and "Best I Ever Had" back in early grade 12 because he was my artist at the moment.

I feel like he sold himself short on Thank Me Later and got TOO influenced by Young Money. Now, I really can\t stand him. Yeah, he has some attractive instrumentals that hit the radio, but I don't ever listen to Drake seriously anymore. He just pisses me off.

I feel like he had way more potential. Financially and popularity wise, YM was probably the right choice but in terms of evolution in his artistry, I feel like it totally stumped what he could have been.

Thank Me Later is his best album, imo. His mixtapes are dope though. Now, had Drizzy done Thank Me Later Part II and went harder than that, nobody would call him soft. (At least, not many.) Dude had Jay-Z, T.I. and a dope-ass Aaliyah sample on the album, then Take Care, he had Ross, Wayne, Nicki and that's pretty much it. Back in late 2010-2011 though, he sounded a LOT like Weezy. Now, I don't think he sounds like him as much. Headlines was your typical Drake song, but then when you go to Make Me Proud, that's Young Money. Then you go to Lord Knows, and it reminds me of Thank Me Later so much. No hate, that's just how I feel about it.

I'm not even a big fan of Thank Me Later, but Take Care is fucking sick, prolly my favorite YM tape.

C'mon, his flow is incredible when he's rapping, packed with everything, and I recall a few sick rhymes like "reservations for 20/preservation of money". He doesn't have to do wordplays and shit to make his lyrics dope, he got everything in hand already.

Not denying that Kendrick completely wiped out every second of that album though.

He's melodic, I definitely agree. But then, here's a good point that you made me think of... as Hip Hop fans, why are we so obsessed about the number of multies a rapper has, instead of how we're able to vibe to it? I'm not saying we don't, but a lot of the time, we count and judge instead of kicking back and enjoying the music.
