I'm pretty sure it plays into the song, so yeah it's a bit of a metaphor. Not for the listener's experience of course
Doesn't it suck when you insult a artist and the other person comes back all serious. Just fucking kills the joke

Dr Dre only discovered Kendrick in 2011 or something like that
Could you show me these displays of lyrical skill? All I've ever seen from him is basic monosyllable rhyming stuff that doesn't really make any sense, or require much thought.Chet Starr wrote:Hesky wrote:
So much expression, emotion, and energy on display in this one.
The track is called rigamortis, and you expect huge energy on a track called rigamortis?![]()
I'm not even getting into this debate, I just wanted to point that out
Rigamortis: The stiffening of a dead body accompanying depletion of adenosine triphosphate in the muscle fibres.
Is the track title a metaphor for the listener's experience?

Can you provide me with any examples of where Kendrick Lamar displays what you would consider lyrical ability?
Wic Kid wrote:To be honest, I agree with the major part of his arguments. Kendrick IS overrated. I mean, he is a good rapper, but he's just different than most fresh rappers nowadays. And that's probably why they praise him. GKMC is slightly above average. Good record, but nothing groundbreaking, sometimes even boring. But if people think that 'different' means 'fuckin genius'...okay then.
IMO if Kendrick blew up in the early 2000's, he wouldn't be half as popular as he is today. People these days are apparently fed up with hipster rap, so Kendrick comes as a refreshment.
Hesky wrote:I just listened to The Art Of Peer Pressure. I'm just not feeling it.
I can see the concept, but it's just delivered in such a monotonous (My opinion), unoriginal (My opinion), uninspiring (My opinion), and elementary (Again, my opinion) fashion that it doesn't hold any weight with me.
I'm sorry that my views are so harsh of one of, if not your most favourite rapper(s). I really am.
Aone10 wrote:That's another thing, there aren't many good contemporary rappers, it's easy for Kendrick to stand out.
Whenever a veteran like Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, or even Lil Wayne drop an album, it dwarfs guys like Kendrick.
The reason GKMC was such a stand out album last year was because nothing BIG dropped. There, I said it.

it's all about personal tastes because not only the young generation listens to kendrick.
Some People who knew Tupac and biggie back in the days really love Kendrick Lamar and it's the same for me.
I grew up on Dr Dre & Eminem's music and I still think that this album was mind blowing, same goes for MBDTF, I would even rate this last album better than any album released in the 2000's

I'm not talkin just about younger generations.Let's say you don't like where hip hop is headed these last few years and you listen mostly to rap pre-2007, But hey, you gotta listen to some new shit from time to time, obviously. And then comes along someone like Kendrick, who sounds like a rapper-staying-truthful-to-rap-roots. And you think 'Wow! This is new.' Well, it is new, but only compared to shit nowadays. From pre-2007 point of view - nothing mindblowing. Toss his ass back to early 2000's, he'd be hardly noticed. Just my 2 cents.
