he was absolutely everywhereTrimss wrote:Yeah, plus I don't think you need to be on everyone's song to be hot. I mean the guy got 4 platinum plaques for Thrift Shop, and it's probably the most played/bought Hip Hop song of 2012/2013.
His album sold really well, and it's going gold soon. 420 000 copies sold. Not that bad for someone who wasn't very famous earlier in 2012, right? I think every trap/rap song now sound the same, with the same artists and the same shitty trap beat. So it's refreshing to hear someone like Macklemore on the radio, even though thrift shop is being overplayed.
He definitely deserves a spot there, way more than Meek Mill or Future. That's a fact.. Just because he doesn't collab with the same guys that we always hear on radio or see on TV doesn't mean he's not hot lol.
Dude really blew up. He deserves a top 10 spot. And I'd argue that Mgk does too, at least as much as Meek Mill or Future, but anyway lol.
Ture but the single became a hit in February and it boosted his albums sales by 200 K.
He didn't really had a" big year "
2 Chainz was everywhere too. He dropped his album, was all over the Cruel Summer album, and was just killing every rapper in sight...and putting their skeletons in his closet along with pussy ass *****.
Kendrick had the best selling album of the year ( nicki released her album 6 months before gkmc)
He was the most praised artist with Frank Ocean, most praised hip hop album since 2010, won lyricist of the year against nas, kanye, jay-z and Cole.
His single was bigger than any 2 chainz's singles ( charts + sales) and he became the most asked rapper for a featuring ( even asked by pop stars such as lady gaga, Dido, Emeli Sandé)
Plus, MTV ( among other sites) called him the savior of hip hop and he is headlining some of the biggest festivals both in Europe and in the USA.
And several months before the release of his album, he was crowned the king of the west coast by Snoop, Dre, Game, Mos Def, etc. I really can't see him at #2 .
The hype was so impressive than some of you said he was over hyped
2 Chainz sold less copies than Kendrick, his album wasn't well received and his own singles weren't in the top 20.
He was everywhere because he did a lot of featurings

Not saying that he is bad, but he wasn't the hottest mc or let's just give the first spot to li lwayne because he was on the news every day lol
