PainKiller is right though. Lupe's two first albums > Kendrick's

food and liquor and the cool are better at than good maad city imo, but lupe is at a huge decline while kendrick is getting only better.

plus, Kendrick's crew Ab Soul, Jay Rock are absolutely murdering it right now..lupe is too busy repeating one verse at a presidential inauguration.

BUT if anyone disputes that Lupe is not a lyrically better rapper than Kendrick then they are factually wrong.

yeah lasers and f&l2 are no where near gkmc...but at one point i thought the cool was one of the best albums ever.

Not excited. His last album was terrible for me, sometimes I feel like he tries too hard to convey a message and it comes off as just...annoying.

yep lupe often does that, that's why I don't consider him as a top lyricist.

and btw, kendrick is being compared to Nas for his lyrics (and Nas is arguably the best lyricist to have picked up the mic) so let's not say that lupe is easily a better lyricist just because he is metaphorical lol

Nah, it's the other way around. They overrate Kendrick's work because of all the publicity he's getting. The album was great as fuck, but Lupe was on another level until he fell off hard.

Hope Kendrick has the longevity and consistency that Lupe didn't have.

Overrated by who ? Kendrick is getting publicity because of the quality of his album...
People don't consider Kendrick as the King because it's cool at the moment to think that kendrick is the goat, they say it because they think it.

If anything, some people underrate GKMC just because they feel insecure about their favorite rapper.
GKMC is considered by a lot of ppl as the best debut album since The college Dropout and you can disagree with that but saying that GKMC is overrated, it's like saying that TMMLP and Illmatic are overrated.
These albums were praised as instant classic, just like Good Kid M.A.A.d. City

The industry that is praising Kendrick is the same industry that praised Nas and Eminem (fans, artists, journalists, etc)

Em's success with TSSLP is almost the same than GKMC except that my name is was maybe more popular than Swimming Pools on radio/tv and in Europe

Em got bigger with TMMLP but we're talking about their label debut
