It looks like I havn't missed out on any great album if J. Cole has made the best album this month. He sold out before he even got going. Fuck that.

Since when does making a radio friendly song = selling out?

I didn't say that.

There are plenty of great tracks on Friday Night Lights and since he claimed most of those were left overs from the Cole World sessions, I expected something even better than that but it is just filled with pointless tracks; no heart, no originality - same old.

It is a shame cus he has proved several times in the past that he is actually a brilliant rapper when he wants to. He is rhetorically really, really good; has a somewhat complex flow; decent rhymes and knows how to construct a good song. Let alone that is a cool producer.

The production is good for the most part but: lyrics > beats any day. It is still the shiny suit era in the mainstream and this album wont change that.

No one who listened to the album would call that selling-out. You just made a fool of yourself judging it by its singles. Good job.

So he sold-out for being the "same old" J. Cole? I was under the impression people sell-out when they change. I can understand people not liking it for being very similar to his earlier work, not showing much evolution, but it's still not selling-out.

No, he has sold out for trying to fit in and giving people what they want to hear. Where will this album be in a couple of years? Gone and forgotten, and that's because it lyrically sounds like something people have heard before.

Personally I can still go back a listen to some of FNL but not really anything from CW, although my opinion is still likely to change if I 'discover' some lyrical gems.

even if Hell is an EP, it's still better than Cole World, Cole World sounds like one song throughout the album, too monotone... I just don't get all the hype about it, not saying it's horrible, but it's not something special

I feel that. That's one of the things that I have held against Cole for a while. But as I listened to it all, it was hard for me to not enjoy it, at least technically.
