lol they did.
Em's success with TSSLP is almost the same than GKMC except that my name is was maybe more popular than Swimming Pools on radio/tv and in Europe
Em got bigger with TMMLP but we're talking about their label debut
Ehm, no they didn't. Eminem got a whole LOT of hate because of the MMLP. That's why he was robbed from the album of the year, and that's why there are a lot of mixed reviews about it. A lot of people were offended by his lyrics, because Em didn't take the easy way into the industry.
The MMLP is considered a classic, yes. But while being ultra controversial, thought provoking and original. I just don't see it in the same league as GKMC, which is definitely a great album though.
yeah but I was talking about TSSLP and Eminem had several 10/10 ratings with that album, he got love from his pairs and a lot of success, just like Kendrick with GKMC
In fact, the same shit happened with Eminem and some other artists, some people didn't consider these albums as instant classic because you usually have to wait a few years to give an album the status of classic but the thing is that Eminem was already influencing artists back in the days and Kendrick is already doing the same thing.
GKMC is compared to illmatic because a lot of people think it's in that league but TMMLP and GKMC are too different to be compared tbh (and if I had to chose, I would chose TMMLP) but both of these albums are masterpieces in their genre: What kendrick did on 12 tracks is a feat that hasn't even been attempted by famous top storytellers like Biggie or Slick Rick and what Eminem did on his individual songs was unique and phenomenal
To be fully honest, I personally feel like it's unfair to really compare GKMC to these old albums because GKMC hasn't pass the test of time. Some people who are living in the moment will say GKMC is better because it's newer material and some people don't like the comparisons because of the "legendary" status of these albums (TMMLP, Illmatic) but these conversations and the influence of gkmc really prove that it's the instant classic we're talking about tbh
