Just because they're meaningful doesn't make him a great lyricist, if making meaningful music makes you a great lyricist then Em's My Life verse must be one of the best verses of 2012.

Em's "My Life" verse isn't meaningful at all...do you know what the word "meaningful" means?

Kanye's verses express emotion, they present imagery, he can tell a story.

The dictionary definition of "lyricism" is: an artist's expression of emotion in an imaginative and beautiful way; the quality of being lyrical.

You know how in one of your earlier posts you said Kanye isn't lyrical just because he takes you on an adventure in his songs? Yeaaaah, you were wrong. That's what being lyrical is all about. Being able to fascinate the listener with intense writing, capture their attention, and make it seem as if you're there. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a GREAT example of this.

His execution is bad, his writing is lazy and he does that on purpose (on The Art Of Rap he said something about getting straight to the point, and no you insignificant joke of a human being, I don't mean multis).

I watched The Art of Rap and I watched that scene as well. I interpreted it as Kanye not willing to write a verse filled with puns and metaphors that go off track of what he was originally trying to say. Eminem would always get straight to the point, he would barely beat around the bush. Kanye is a rapper that wants people to understand him. He doesn't want people to be confused as to what he is trying to say, he wants people to know his mood without a second guess.

And being average is actually a complement you cry baby, being a top lyricist means he's on the same lyrical level as Nas or Em.

I bet you don't even know why people consider Nas so great. But, that's a topic for another time.

Well, that's right of course but we're talking about rap here.
If you wanna use the literal meaning of it then yes, but when we talk about rap the meaning of being lyrical from the urban dictionary it corresponds with the meaning of a lyrical poet in the normal dictionary.

There is no different definition in the hip-hop world. It means the same thing. YOU might think being lyrical means cramming multi's in a verse. When someone's talking hip-hop, they don't say, "Big L's HIP-HOP lyricism is better than his NOT HIP-HOP lyricism." It means the same thing.

I have never doubted his ability to make an album so well-done musically, but breaking down the lyrics as a rap fan, i'm not impressed.
Sure, he might have a punch of great verses, every rapper does but overall he's an average lyricist.

The reason for this is because you're probably on the hunt for rhymes: internals, multi's. What the rapper is actually saying is probably last on your list...

What i'm trying to say is, if you read the lyrics alone with no beat, they're not impressive.
On the other hand, for example Nas...read his lyrics without even listening to the song, you'd see why he is a great lyricist and why Kanye is not that good.

Kanye isn't the type of artist that NEEDS a beat. He's not 2 Chainz, Chief Keef, or any of those other garbage trap rap music makers.

I don't agree on the 'all his music sucked after MBDTF' statement though. Ok, Cruel Summer wasn't 'GOOD', but not all songs were shit. New God Flow, Clique, Mercy, Cold and The Morning were not bad songs. He also dropped White Dress, which was great, and the Diamonds Remix, which made the song better as the original. Also, I really liked WTT. I mean, No Church In The Wild, NIP and Otis are great singles, Murder To Excellence, Gotta Have It, Illest Motherfucker Alive and Made In America are great songs too.

He definitely needs to step his game up for his new solo though, but I'm sure he will
