Postby RaidsTheThrone » Aug 26th, '11, 23:29

(Please note : I like to do my reviews for a homies album.. or mixtape in this case late because its after a few months that the music makes a real impact to me, and it whould be cool to see what yawl think now)

Because this one dope-ass fucking mixtape

Info
Nostalgia, Ultra
Mixtape by Frank Ocean
Released February 18, 2011
Length 42:06, Its a Free download (for now)

Ive liked R&B a bit but hip-hop and grime is practically always on the playist.
When im not listening to that its Coldplay that booms out the speakers
So you can guess my Joy when Track 2 started (Strawberry Swing).
The whole thing samples its fair share of Rock like the Eagles on (American Wedding)
or MGMT on (Nature Feels).
While im not fully custom to the change of scenery from a OF member no less !
His smooth delivery and intresting tone keep me enjoying the tape throughout.
And his story telling is uncanny on (Novacane) and (There will be Tears).

Tracklist Review.

"StreetFighter"  N/A
"Strawberry Swing"  9/10
"Novacane"  9/10
"We All Try" 8.5/10
"Bitches Talkin' (Metal Gear Solid)" N/A
"Songs 4 Women" 8/10
"Love Crimes" 7/10
"GoldenEye" N/A (dont rate the skits, or there random ass retro game names)
"There Will Be Tears" 10/10
"Swim Good" 9/10
"Dust" 5/10
"American Wedding" 10/10
"Soul Calibur"  N/A
"Nature Feels" 7/10

Best Track ... American Wedding
Worst Track .. Dust

(Sidenote, Incredible tape.. but i hope for the next realese we get some OF Colabs) :y:

One of the best tapes of the past 2 years, any genre :y:

We All Try was my fav, straight up amazing

I like some R&B, like Breezy, Usher, Kells, etc. but I'm not its biggest fan.
However, this new wave of R&B is sick, it's more of a new genre than R&B.

If you like Nostalgia, Ultra check out both of The Weeknd's tapes on Datpiff: House Of Balloons and Thursday, both are amazing but HOB is better.

And I'm sure you've heard it, but Drake's new stuff like Marvin's Room and Trust Issues is great too.

And check this dude James Blake, his new self titled album is awesome, like a mix of 808s and Bon Iver.

Brilliant mixtape.... I think people might have slept on this thread because most Frank Ocean stuff tends to go in "General Music" as it's not hip-hop. But anyway, my favourite tracks are Nature Feels, Swim Good and Strawberry Swing. The whole thing from top to bottom is great on the ears though and there's no bad tracks.

Frank Ocean makes some crazy good music. I can't stop listening to this mixtape. Is he coming out with an album anytime soon?

My ratings of the songs:

Strawberry Swing - 10/10
Novacane - 8/10
We All Try - 10/10
Songs For Women - 7.5/10
Lovecrimes - 7
There Will Be Tears - 7
Swim Good - 8.5
American Wedding - 10/10
Nature Feels - 7

This guy has the voice of an angel and I can't believe someone with his talent is associated with Odd Future. Just from these ten songs and his hooks from WTT, Frank Ocean is one of my new favorite artists. :flutter:
