stillmatic wrote:If memory serves me right No Limit was the only label willing to meet Death Row's quote on Snoop's contract, as well as many other strict detail listed by Death Row for anyone willing to buy out his contract. Some of these demands were that Snoop's past catalog (and all royalties) would remain on Death row, any released and un-released material Snoop material could be released by Death Row (which they did, numerous times) and the moniker 'Snoop Doggy Dogg' belonged to Death Row, thus 'Snoop Dogg' was born.
Snoop Dogg at the time was bankrupt because of his trial, had completely burned his bridges with Death Row and had no freedom where he could make material with Dre, the same way Dre couldn't record with Biggie when he wanted to at Death Row. For Snoop, it was the only option really. He moved to the South, thus lost his entire sound too. That's why when people label that Snoop as sellout, they don't understand the nasty politics involved. It was better to be a servant under Master P than Suge. Sad, but it was reality.
