Blaming poor sales on promotions

Postby Mahmoud48 » Dec 3rd, '11, 03:07

Are we really gonna start doing that like forreal. Iv seen topics about albums selling poorly and people are just blaming it on bad promotion! Thats not the reason tbh....What do u expect labels to do, a shitload of commercials! People are aware of which album is coming out and their aware of these new artists. The reason albums arnt selling is because it sucks! Yelawolf is signed behind Shady! SHADY who has a larger fanbase then Lil Wayne yet he barly sold 10k first week..While Tyler and Childish Gambino are able to sell a good 50k as independent artists

I think its really stupid to blame labels for bad promotion or hype..the artist deserve blame too

No, it's definitely promotion. A lot of people didn't even know Yelawolf had an album out. Yela sold over 40K, and Tyler sold like 45K, although XL is considered "Indie", whatever that means when they have artists like Radiohead. Any label that gets over 40K really isn't independent to be honest. You can't be independent and are able to produce that many copies.

Shady is terrible with promotion, and really only started going hard like a week before the album came out. I expect them to release another single though because the album does have some hit worthy songs.

You're wrong. Pretty much plain and simple. You're basically under the assumption everyone knows Yelawolf. You can't be interested in his album if he's not popular. So Brother Ali's albums sell less than Lil Wayne's because Ali is wack and Wayne isn't? Promotion is needed to get the word out about an album when it's a new or unknown artist.

You know why Tyler sold so much? His promotion. The Yonkers video, Sanwitches performance on Jimmy Fallon, and Golf Wang commercials.

Being signed to Shady doesnt have ANYTHING to do with sales, people that don't know hes signed and don't even know he exists. Look at this way, Massacre sucked ass, Radioactive is superior in every form yet Massacre sold 5 million. Why is this? This is because everyone knew about 50 Cent and nobody knows about Yelawolf. You can't really blame Yela for the lack of promotion since hes literally being doing as much self promotion as possible for him to set up without label help, hes been touring with Wu-Tang for about a year and now hes got his own tour. Even if think this album sucks for some reason you got to see that it has mainstream appeal and should be and with promotion, would be selling,

EDIT: Fuck, I just realized who the OP was, nicely done sir.
