Jay, Em, Nas Have Inherited Shakespeare's Skill

Postby Amaranthine » Dec 14th, '11, 01:57

When Micheal Boyd, the director of Britain's Royal Shakespeare Company, visited Charlie Rose last night, the two had an in-depth conversation revolving around William Shakespeare and the influence that his work still has today. Rose asked who the inheritors of Shakespeare are, and Boyd answered:

"I think contemporary filmmakers, I think contemporary rappers, in terms of verse—someone like Jay-Z, or Nas, or Eminem. They inherit one part of it: that extraordinary, quick-fire, highly organized, very sharp, very witty, metrical rhyming language. Brilliant."

Complex.

It's a known fact that rap music contains some level of poetry.

I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Shakespeare did one syllable rhyming tbh, that makes " Jay, Em & Nas" great. Well I can do the same so..

Are you kidding? It wasn't about the rhyme, rhymes were to create flow. It was every single word he used. Every single story he told. Nobody judges poetry on how good the rhyming is...

Shakespeare is really an overrated artist. His flow is really average and he has a weird delivery, sounds like poetry more than rap tbh.

Comparing legends like Jay Em and Nas to him is just a pure disgrace for them.

Poetry in Raps has gotten a different meaning, hence it's way of usage makes it different from Shakespeare's work.

Shakespeare invented more shit in the English language than some of you motherfuckers can count to.
BTW I'm glad he knows who the best MC are, and he didn't say some dumb shit like Lil Wayne.
