He definitely isn't overrated. However he also definitely isn't on top of his game anymore and most of his greatest beats were made over a decade ago.

His technical skills as a producer might be somewhat overrated, but he will always be the most legendary producer in hip hop simply due the high level that his producing brought him and the rap game as a whole. I dont need to go over his resume with you guys. As far as making a real and significant impact on the game no other producer comes close to what Dre did and his legacy goes unmatched. His recognition is deserved.

To an extent, most superstars are overrated. But Dre has achieved more than most in the business, and - imo - deserves to be recognized as one of the GOAT producers.

But the fact that he isn't sample reliant puts him faaaaar over most these guys. Especially Kanye and his Puffy style copy/paste samples, though his beats did become very creative once he started having other producers help him.

I don't agree. First off some of his greatest/most well-known beats have used samples - Let Me Ride, California Love, Who Am I (What's My Name), My Name Is, Guilty Conscience etc...

And secondly, sampling can be just as difficult, if not more difficult, to get right than original beats.
