"Donnie Brasco"

Postby Man1x » Jul 6th, '12, 04:53

Ab-Soul, One-2, and Fashawn team up on a track to bring us ‘Donnie Brasco’ off of their compilation ‘The Mint Room’ which will be hitting the internet July 10th, which is only a week away. Other featured artists on the compilation will include ScHoolboy Q, Crooked I and Jay Rock to name a few. This new track Donnie Brasco is really dope and brings a ton of great sounds to one track for you to enjoy.
Go ahead and check it out for yourself and be sure to leave your thoughts below in the comments section.

To be honest, I hope Ab-Soul doesn't team up with these people too much. They aren't too attractive musically, but he is. He should have done a verse to save the song, the only thing I liked was his hook.

I love Ab Soul, but Fashawn is pretty good too. Very calm and soothing rapper. Doesn't get enough love. His debut album was amazing.

I love Black Hippy in general. My mind set currently is Kendrick Lamar >>> Ab-Soul>Schoolboy Q >>>>>>>>>> The rest of the up and comers and even some of the established acts that are big names. Black Hippy is extremely talented and amazing lyrically. Seriously, Black Hippy > Slaughterhouse at their best in term of lyrics. That's not even a joke, I mean Kendrick, Soulo, and Q make up for the short comings on Jay Rock (who by the way is still better than most rappers doing it). Even more they stick to their own sound, do not compromise on the quality of their music for a hit, and they have amazing in-house production. They are my favorites in the game right now, they are so down to earth and care about the quality of their work.

Kendrick Lamar is probably the best rapper at the moment and Schoolboy Q is a top five rapper in terms of personality and entertainment value. Slaughterhouse can't touch them now... or probably ever. They have good flows, but they've made a lot of lame music as a group.

In their defense, most of that music leaked. They, as a group, haven't released an official project. They will make a debut album soon, I have a thread about it if you care. Also, I love most of the material they have as a group, so if you name some of the tracks you think are lame than more power to you. Thanks in advance. :8)

Oh, never mind then. I was kind of doing a "what the fuck" moment when I thought you referred to Black Hippy. I honestly haven't heard a bad song from them as solo artists or as a collective. But, yeah I agree with you on Slaughterhouse, they got the lyrics and technicals, but they haven't made too many good songs (the only song they have with substance, in my opinion, is Pray (It's a Shame), however they have some nice, lyrically inspired tracks that are good for when I'm thinking.) However, Black Hippy has all of the abilities of Slaughterhouse and more, which is why I will choose them over Slaughterhouse any day. Joe Budden is the stand out guy anyway, and probably the only one from Slaughterhouse that could compete with Black Hippy as solo acts. Not to say Royce da 5'9", Crooked I, and Joell Ortiz have bad solo material, but it's just not as focused, innovative, interesting/entertaining, and thought provoking as Kendrick Lamar's, Ab-Soul's, Schoolboy Q's, and Joe Budden's solo material. Also, Black Hippy's music is very diverse. They are not limited in a box and each member can do a variety of styles. If you lined up Black Hippy's and Slaughterhouse's solo acts in order of skill, I'd say: Kendrick Lamar > Ab-Soul > Joe Budden = Schoolboy Q (very hard match off, I prefer Schoolboy Q however.) > Jay Rock > Crooked I > Royce da 5'9" > Joell Ortiz. That list takes every aspect into account, if it was lyrical ability then Jay Rock would be dead last on this list so stans, don't flip shit. Anyway, I put Jay Rock up their because he can actually create a song and make an album that feels like a movie where as Slaughterhouse members tend to make albums based around "hot bars" and "16s". Those things are important, but not as important as creating imagery and developing a connection with the listener. That is why, Pray (It's a Shame) is their best song in my opinion. Anyway, the three heavy weights of Black Hippy still have hotter bars than the ones Slaughterhouse brags about, but still manage to create a feeling in their music and excel in so many other categories besides just lyricism and flow.

I agree with most of what you said. I hate Budden though. My list would go:

Kendrick
Q
Ab
Royce
Crooked
Joell
Budden
Jay Rock

I could get behind that list. Also, Joe Budden isn't an easy artist to get into, or for me anyway. It took a little time, but I connected with some of his older shit and some songs DA listed off in a post.
