He's a great songwriter, has very well-rounded lyrical skills, awesome flow/voice/delivery, amazing discography, obviously an amazing producer, and has been the best Hip-Hop artist in the past 8 years. He's my 4th favorite rapper.

I think Kanye is a great producer, a decent lyricist (who occasionally hits upon a genius line); a decent all-round rapper, a fairly good songwriter (sticks to themes, writes good hooks, good vocal delivery) and an incredibly ambitious artist who never stops trying to outdo himself.

In regards to his personality... he's can be smug or in my opinion, think he's done something greater than he often has, or thinks his everyday thoughts are on a higher level than that of other intelligent or creative people when they're really not, and so... his sense of self-importance or entitlement is a bit deluded; and from this can stem erratic displays of egotism, tantrums etc. but the fundamental quality to Kanye that I think makes him good is the fact that he strives for truth.

All of the previous paragraph is more-so to talk about the elephant in the room in regards to his perceived flaws. I actually like Kanye as a person, find him entertaining, often funny and enjoy watching his interviews and he often makes some interesting leaps.

I myself have always dug for answers very erratically and focused on details and cared what about what's right or wrong, true or false etc. and I think any 'good' or intelligent mind often does. And, regardless of whether he always hits upon it, whether he's way off; idiotic, smug, senseless, abstract or whatever (as we all can be), the INTENT is what truly matters, and it's often pure.
