MGK Thinks He's an "Outcast" in Hip-Hop Because He's White

Postby Amaranthine » Sep 27th, '12, 02:31

Machine Gun Kelly may be seeing his buzz starting to cool a little but his debut album Lace Up may get the Cleveland rapper back on track. Part of the reason MGK may feel he's an outcast is because of both his skin color and his style.

In a recent interview, Machine Gun Kelly said "I honestly feel like right now, my biggest hindrance in why you don't hear things like, 'MGK is lyrically hot'… the white thing, mixed with the fact that I don't dress like the normal Hip Hop person."

He would go on to explain how he believes he's matured in a short time.

"I definitely have matured a lot, especially with the album coming out, it kind of gave me hope in life," he said. "I think I shunned a lot of people, but I also think that I kept what I had exclusive, meaning that I didn't ho myself out. I'm proud of how I've done my career, but I'm definitely going to change up a little bit."

Oh jeeze. Here comes the bitching..

But people need to note right away that it's being white with the "style" he has on top of that. Not just cause he's white. Seeing how people like to see/hear what they want.

He definitely does have his own style though.

MGK > The Game tbh.

It's true that him and Yelawolf are more punk/rock rappers than pure hip hop rappers.

Also, what he says is true. How many of y'all complained about his image on this forum?

He's actually right in a way - ANY new white rapper that has come since Em gets compared to Em and if not as good or mind blowing in another way, tend to get dismissed.

And I do actually agree that white rappers are judged more harshly as I've read some reviews on Yelawolf and Asher Roth that are just ridiculous, like, ridiculously biased and are CLEARLY to do with them being white as the critic mentions it multiple times, and it's obvious.

And then I've seen completely SUCK-ASS black rappers get praised... like, it is easier for a shitty black rapper to get praise than it is for a decent white rapper, for many. I genuinely feel that, as much as it sounds like bitching, and he does need to stfu as he bitches a lot but, he's kind of right.

BUT, if the music is good enough, it'll speak for itself over time anyway.

Whaaaat Rev? Since when Paull Wall and Vanilla Ice are punk skaters? Only guy with the same style as him is Yelawolf, and he flopped too. He's hated too, in the hip hop community.

Clearly you don't listen to him at all. Everyone here complained about his image, ain't it a proof of what he says? 'yeah this was ok but i dont like his image' (not only you geno lol.not attackin you)

It's somewhat trap rap, but in a white way.

No. Go and listen to one of his mixtapes (Lace Up) and tell me it's trap rap. This is definitely so wrong on so many levels. It's like hearing Here Comes the Weekend and saying Eminem is a club rapper.

Wild Boy isn't his only song you know? Check that Westwood freestyle, I posted it on a thread. Check "Lace Up" or simply his EP, Half Naked and Almost Famous. Yeah it's only 5 tracks, check that.

Definitely the definition of trap rap.
He's got no talent whatsoever.

LOL you like Yelawolf right? Because they both have the same rhyming style. Just listen to Father's day, he's rhyming the same word for a whole verse. Yet you probably think it's great.
Trap Rap is 2Chainz. When a rapper makes more meaningful song than party songs, it's not trap rap. Or consider Yelawolf as trap rap too.

Seriously, if you told me he can flow but his rhymes are wack I would've said ok, but he's actually improving. But saying he's trap rap.. lol.

Well, so is MGK. Except he can't sing. But I heard he tries it on his new album lol.

Revolutionary wrote:Look man, EVERY rapper has at least one great song.
I'm not saying he's trash at all, I don't like his music, I think it all sounds the same and he's overrated as fuck.

Look, every rapper has at least a bad song. Because he doesn't have only one great. I know you aren't, but you're saying he's trap music which he is not. It's like saying a rapper like Soulja Boy is a multi rapper because he might use one of them sometimes lol.
Also no, he's not overrated. A lot of people hate on him because of his image, they hate on him they call him wigger etc.. Overrated is 2chainz, Rick Ross, etc..

Revolutionary wrote:Whether that's true or not, it shouldn't bother you, it's up to me to realize that because believe it or not...I give every rapper a chance whenever they release a new project (I downloaded 2 Chainz's album).
So, i'm definitely gonna listen to Lace Up, it's just that F&L2 has been on repeat every since it leaked.

Maybe it's his attitude that made him get as big as he is right now, his attitude can be irritating but I don't care, it's usually the best way to introduce yourself in the game.

Again, the fact that you don't like him doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the fact that you're saying some stupid stuff (don't get offended bro) like the label endorses him too much.

He had a lot of troubles with Diddy because of his behavior, because of how he acts, because of how "wild" (nohomo) he is. It's not true at all.

^ I thought you were saying something like he's a spoiled brat and the label does everything he wants lol. And I'm litterally the only one on this forum with Lello who keep praising him on a regular basis.

And I don't praise him as if he was amazing because I always say he's not the most lyrical rapper, that his writing isn't even all that good actually haha. But I know what you mean.

Don't you think if I told you "yea check mgk he's boring" you'll check his music out? I don't think so haha. I'm saying this kid has a lot of potential, and as for now, he's even better than Yelawolf for me.
