Most consistent rapper of all time

Postby tadpole25 » Jan 1st, '13, 02:52

Jay Z , I'm not saying he was the best rapper of all time (but he is pretty good).

Wayne and Kanye have successful careers, but they're newer.
Eminem had a 5-year recluse period after Encore.
Rakim lost what made him so great in the 80's and he barely makes music.
Biggie and Tupac died.
Nas stagnated. He rapped the same way then as he does now with no changes. It got a little stale.

Jay Z has the money, the record label, clothing and he's been with hiphop in all of its eras every since he came out. One of the most recognized names, but most of all, he adapted to whatever era he was in.

He never really fell off. He was always one of the greats ever since he came out. And even now he has high status.

I think of all rappers, Jay Z handled his fame the best for this reason.

He had a three year hiatus and has two mediocre albums right after that. If you count those albums, he was gone longer than Em (03-09.) I think IT IS Kanye. He has had arguably four classic albums from '04-'10 all while producing sometimes whole albums not to mention his own albums. Not to mention starting his own label, doing a label album, a collab album (and working on the sequel) and giving amazing live shows. Wake up to Mister West!

actually, kanye west is one of the most consistent rappers, aside from jay z

the reason why jay z tops kanye is because he's held his high status and fame and relevance for 8 years longer than kanye has, twice as long as kanye.

that is because they both can adapt. jay z in the 90's had a rap style that fit with the 90's. in the early 2000's he had a rap style that fit with the early 2000's and now he has a rap style that fits in with today. his music is never the same. he constantly changes and re-invents himself.

consistent is constancy, and the only thing constant is change. nas, for example, one of the best of all time, but he's been rapping about the same things with the same technique for 18 years now.

and eminem, he's had a history of high highs and low lows. encore had some really nice stuff on it, but the other half of it was garbage. and outside of eminem's underground circles of fans, nobody really cares for relapse.

no other rapper (than jay z ) ever in history has held fame for 16 consecutive years

Jay-Z had three bad albums how is that being consistent? You mean consistent in term of popularity, not quality I guess.

Jay had 3 bad albums? Lol his quality has been consistently good ever since he dropped Reasonable Doubt. He's never plunged into an abyss like Eminem has with Encore.
